Global Entry and Nexus - should I renew and what are the options?

I'm a newbie so forgive me; I did research the prior posts but did not see anything on point. Here's my story:

I have Global Entry and Nexus, US citizen and GE was set to expire in June 2019. When I went on-line on GOES I saw that my Nexus membership does not expire for another year. So yes, I'm covered until June 2020. I can start the renewal process this June and that's what I'm wondering.

1. In June, will the option be to renew for Nexus only? Or will it be for GE? Or both? I realize Nexus replaces GE.

2. But I really don't need Nexus. Besides, I never went through the eye scanner process for Nexus (it would have been done on my next visit to Canada).

3. My preference is to simply get GE renewed.

I'm not sure if anybody has had this experience.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Welcome to FT. If you activated your NEXUS card, your Global Entry card was deactivated. You can renew both at T-364.

It is your own personal preference. NEXUS is $50 and many credit cards do not reimburse. Many renewed without an interview.

Global Entry is $100 and many credit cards do reimburse.

Thanks. What is T-364? "You can renew both at T-364".

Hello @pwresq,

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

You can not have active memberships in both Global Entry and NEXUS. Take a look at this thread:
NEXUS Card Gets Deactivated upon Final Approval of Global Entry Application
By writing that you can renew at T-364, @1KChinito is advising you that you can apply for the renewal your membership as early as 364 days prior to the expiration date.

Yep. Got it. Understood and thanks again. Appreciate the support. Found a similar post as well mentioning the known glitch at GE kiosks - - i.e., when I arrived back in the USA recently, the GE kiosk said my GE expires in 80ish days (my birthday); well, if GE is deactivated and absorbed into my Nexus, there is no expiration for GE, the only expiration is for Nexus and that's in 2020. That's what got me confused in the first place. Thanks.

Glad you found that Global Entry kiosk glitch thread. I was just about to mention it to you in case you decide to keep your NEXUS and not renewing GE.

I have gotten Nexus reimbursed by the AMEX Platinum both times (initial & renewal) for my wife & I ($100 total) by calling & pointing out that there is virtually no difference between GE & Nexus, which includes GE. I think you could successfully posit that argument with any card that reimburses GE.

I would not count on reimbursement. It is not part of the T&C and Amex simply provided a customer service gesture. Most cards will do that for sufficiently valuable customers.

Whether some other card issuer will do the same for OP depends on the issuer's internal policies and OP's value as a customer to the issuer.
