This thread has been really helpful I really appreciate everyone's posts, so I wanted to share my datapoints on the Nexus renewals for the family. All of our Nexus memberships were set to expire on various dates 2024. So heeding the advice of many on here, we applied for renewal at approximately a year prior to expiration of each. Here's the timeline:

June 19, 2023: P1, P2, P3 - Renewal submitted
August 7, 2023: P4 - Renewal submitted
October 8, 2023: P1, P2 - Receive a letter placed into account indicating approval (no interview required) with new expiration date of 2029.
October 10, 2023: P3 - Receives letter placed into account indicating approval (no interview required) with new expiration date of 2029.
November 17, 2023: P4 - Receives letter placed into account indicating approval (no interview required) with new expiration date of 2029
November 22, 2023: P4 - Receives Letter with new Nexus card in US mail. Online account had a button to click, to acknowledge receipt of the card which was done.

So the big issue is that P1, P2, and P3 never received their new Nexus cards in the mail. Not only that, there was no button to click in each of their accounts to acknowledge receipt of their cards. Almost as if something broke in the process of getting the cards distributed. In early November I opened up a help desk ticket as suggested by some posters on here, but received a generic email response with some FAQ's as a response. It did say to respond to that email if the FAQ's don't help (which I then did), but that was several weeks ago and no further response was received.

Went to the Nexus office at YYZ last week, they checked all accounts and said everything is in order on the Canadian side. They indicated that the actual printing of the cards is handled on the American side and gave me a phone number to call in the US (with a warning that the wait times can be very long. That number is 1-877-227-5511. I'm told they are open from 8:30am-5:00pm ET.

I called that customer service number today 12/20/23, and after about a 10 minute wait I spoke to a representative. She indicated that there were problems with getting Nexus cards sent out on some accounts at the end of September and early October of this year. She was able to assist me with escalating a case to get this resolved. However, she could only help in cases where it was for myself or a minor dependent. Due to privacy rules, anyone over 18 would need to call them separately and provide their information.

So, we have escalations open with them now, and I will report back if there is any movement on the case.

First renewal. Conditionally approved but never got auto-approved without interview after waiting for a few months. Feels like I'm one of the very few here. Scheduled an interview next time I'm back in Canada, thankfully the grace period is more than enough,

While my application was approved (and the TTP website confirms this), I am still waiting for my new (updated) card to arrive. I reached out to TTP on this back in November and was told my card would eventually be printed but no more information beyond this was offered. This leads to a possibility of travel occurring after the passing of my original card expiration date but with a renewed (and approved) card yet to be delivered.

In reading what I have seen in this thread, this is supposed to allow me continued access to Nexus AFTER the expiration date of the original card but do I need to carry (and be able to produce) any specifics about the approval of my renewed Nexus card if I travel (and need to use Nexus) AFTER the expiration date of my original Nexus card?

No it’s so in the system and works fine at CBP CBSA and TSA

Renewal application for mid Sept expiry that was approved early December got a new card. Earlier June renewal approved mid October and expiring April got nothing so far.

Follow up: I sent an email requesting a follow up on the missing (or yet to be printed) card and this triggered an escalation of my case. A day or two after that, I received an email with the following note:

"A new card has been ordered to your address on file. It may arrive in as little as 8-10 business days but can take up to 6-8 weeks to receive the card. The card will arrive in a white envelope and cannot be forwarded."

Fingers crossed.

Applied for first renewal: Oct 23, 2023 (1 day after my birthday, wanted to get the renewal application in as soon as I was eligible to renew)
Conditionally approved: Jan 2, 2024

Found appointments in early March 2024 at Blaine, Washington. Thanks to the NEXUS appointment bot was able to change it to late feb then early feb and finally next week! Hopefully the next steps go smoothly :)

Just applied for renewal. Didn't realize until a couple of weeks ago that I expire in April 2024!!! THEN noticed the 12-14 month advertised wait time!!!! Is that still accurate??

So the grace period thing....my card will continue to work when driving northbound (into Canada) and southbound (into U.S.) through the border even after it expires in April?

I also applied (first time) for the wife and kids (ages 21 and 15). I presume an interview is a must for all of them considering they'll need to capture iris scans, etc. Yes?

As long as you apply for renewal before your card expires, you should be good to go for up to five years of grace period. The card will work as if it is unexpired at land crossings and works even as an TSA ID (I've given my expired card and I was fine)

UPDATE: P2 and P3 finally received their card in the mail on 1/2/2024. P1 finally received their card in the mail on 1/4/2024.

Based on my experience I would suggest that anyone that didn't receive their Nexus card within about a month after getting an approval notification should call the customer service number at 1-877-227-5511, and open an escalation for your case. Don't assume the card was lost in the mail and pay a reissue fee. As in my case, the cards were stuck somewhere in the process between approval and printing/mailing.

This will be my 2nd renewal

Application 10/31/2023

Approval 01/08/2024

Interview ? Not required.

Card Delivery
Pick-up and Activation

I'm happy. But it still bugs me that I can't update the driver's license unless I go in person.

bbodb3 Jan 10, 2024 9:23 am

And my journey to renew comes to a close as the card has arrived in the U.S. Mail and I have activated the new card.
I still have no idea why the first card never showed up in my mailbox (or where it ended up), but done for another 5 years!

sea_jeff Jan 12, 2024 1:19 pm

Weird. Applied for 2nd renewal for the better half and myself a few months ago. Her card showed up a couple weeks ago. No interview required.

Mine has remained in Pending until last week. I was unable to update my new drivers license info until last week. Now I'm showing as conditionally approved but requiring interview.

I cannot seem to schedule an interview either remotely or in person on the calendar.

I suppose it's not that big a deal given that the extension beyond expiry is quite a long time but I'd just as soon have a new card with the fresh expiry date.

trmbn65 Jan 14, 2024 6:27 pm

Applied for my second renewal August 30, 2023. Received conditional approval yesterday. So 4.5 months for approval. Much less than the 12-14 months advertised on TTP. Frustrated about the interview required since I live in Ohio, but I will definitely be in Detroit or Buffalo in the next 6 months. My best guess is needing a new photo taken since my photo is from my original application 10.5 years ago or travelling to some high risk African countries (for work).

No virtual interviews are offered for NEXUS. What locations did you try? I'm showing quite a bit of availability. Although, it did not load at all on my iPhone in Safari and did not load the first time in Chrome on my Windows computer.
