I've had my KTN entered into my PNRs at 45 minutes to 23 hours ahead of scheduled departure and gotten PreCheck LLL nearly always in such circumstances when flying a PreCheck-enabled carrier from a PreCheck-enabled US terminal/airport on trips originating from the US. Often enough I've had this (add KTN within less than 24 hours to departure) work even after I've already been checked in for the flight.

TSA states that it can take 72 hours for a KTN to process. But, in almost all cases, it takes minutes. I have purchased tickets enroute to the airport (10 minutes from downtown DC to DCA) and had Pre-Check.
Simply add your KTN to your profile for all carriers which participate in Pre-Check. Make certain that the name on your GE and thus related to your KTN matches the name on your carrier's profile exactly (no extraneous punctuation or spaces) and you should not experience any problems.

I've not been getting pre, but just noticed that my date of birth in goes is off by one day (DOB for my passport is however correct) - I'm guessing/hoping that's why, and I'm going to try and get the date corrected at an enrolment centre this week. Next flight is middle of February so I can't really check whether that's enough any time soon.

It would be interesting to see what would happen to your chances for PreCheck LLL if you decided to merely change the birth data in the SecureFlight fields to make it match what was kept when using GOES.

Only getting a chance to update this now. So, had my interview on the 15th at LAX. Did not look at anything other than my passport, did not ask me any questions. Told me I was good to go and I'd get an email with confirmation in 24 hours. Took less than 2 mins. If fact it took be longer to walk from their office to the car than it took to approve me. Oh, by the time I got back to the car it was in my inbox. Pretty quick and painless......

Updating my DOB took about 30 seconds at the enrollment center, so fingers crossed I'll be pre-checked on my next flights.
// Edit: apparently someone successfully did just that - wrong DOB, so they did a new GE application (no idea why they did that...), and in the meantime used their wrong GE DOB to get precheck:

Just had my interview at JFK... Arrived at an empty Terminal 4 two hours early for my interview to find five CBP agents all eager to sort me out. In and out within five minutes, no questions, no checks other than looking at my passport! I think he thought I was bonkers to brave the snowpocalypse just for my GE interview 
Received my confirmation email before I left the airport.
Told one of my colleagues who has been struggling to get an appointment, he rang in, and they told him to come straight down for an interview as they're not busy... So if your conditionally approved, in NY, and have a couple of hours to kill on the E train, I'd suggest giving them a ring ^

Finally done with my whole GE application process! Turns out that it can work for entering the USA on your visa and your esta, if you happen to have both. But my first name is too long for AA to match it with what's on GOES and I suspect I won't get Pre-Check because of that. In retrospect $160 is a bit pricey...but oh well

Conditional approval - 12 Jan
Interview at ORD - 19 Jan, approved 20 mins later
The interview was chill and the officer was super friendly, and maybe because I was young, I was only asked to confirm my current address, visa expiry date and whether I would like my ESTA added on top of my visa too for using GE. It was 10 mins max and I sat there waiting most of the time. My HK ID card was also accepted as a 2nd ID. He did not understand why people from HKG can get British citizenship but did not press anyway.

I just want to confirm my reading of the eligibility criteria at http://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-tr...ry/eligibility
I am a UK citizen, so I'm eligible, right? Is it as simple as that?
Have the terms changed? I remember looking into this a year or so back (?) and concluding that I was ineligible because, although I live in the US, I hold a visitor visa (H1B) not a green card.
