Miami couldn't organize a social event in a brewing establishment.

That's a fair point. Slightly OT I tried something new this time for my connection in MIA to TPA. Going through the normal 'connections' route leads to what is normally a humungous queue where there's no TSA-Pre option. It can often take 30 minutes or so in my experience. So, this time I went through arrivals and then back to domestic departures and through the TSA-Pre route. It was a dead quick way of avoiding what can be a very long security wait.

Do you mean to say that I will no longer have to queue with a bunch of South Americans when I go through Miami next week and there are automated kiosks now that can facilitate entry? ^ if so.

Yes, it does help somewhat, it seems to be an important improvement rather than a resolution, here's MIA's press release:

However elsewhere, MIA's international passenger loads are sharply up recently, with the biggest growth from Brazil and other Latin American countries (apart from Argentina).

I heard these are now appearing for ESTA holders in other airports
EDIT - I just seen the many replies after posting, so excuse any duplication

THanks! never heard or seen the kiosks, but looks like they are in the airports I use - so next time I shall give them a go.

SFO is a prime candidate for them at about 1300 on any day on the United arrivals side ! And that is for US citizens and foreigners !

Any US citizen or green card holder who flies internationally through SFO at least once a year and doesn't have Global Entry fully deserves to be scorned

I have GE. But it still saddens me to see the queues.

According to a report in the Tampa Bay Times this morning the new kiosks are coming to Tampa shortly where they will be deployed at Airside F (so ideal for arriving BA passengers).

There was no date given in the article.

I used them in ORD last week. It was fine.

The confusing thing is still where these machines can be used by ESTA holders. The kiosks have been around for a while for US citizens and residents (?), but I don't think they were open to ESTA people till recently.

It would be interesting to track where people have succeeded with these.

There are two distinct types of kiosks. Some for Global Entry users and some for ESTA users. The latter are new and require you to use the kiosk and then see a CBP agent. The former have been around for some time and enable eligible users to bypass seeing a CBP agent entirely.

I used the ORD ESTA kiosk a couple of weeks back when I couldn't use the "hand luggage only" line since it apparently it closes at 7pm which I hadn't realised before. The kiosk worked fine, but as said it still requires seeing an agent afterwards. It does mean one doesn't fill out the customs form on the plane as I recall. EWR on the way was standard agent only, and no "hand luggage only" line -- only ORD and IAH have that afaik.

Do BA tell ESTA holders not to bother filling in the form or does everyone fill them in anyway and then find they don't need it?
