Of course, if you have a credit card that will pay the fee, but won't 10-11 months later (e.g., cancel because of annual fee), that changes the calculus.

For those who have successfully renewed, is a new GE card automatically sent? If not, what is the process for updating the card? Thanks.

Conditionally approved today 5/17
Set interview for 5/19 at IAD. There was a slot available today at DC office but don't have time to go home and get my passport.
I had a address change + job change
I also put China as traveled country although I only did airside transfer

Yes - new card showed up for me two weeks after my renewal was approved. I never use it so I wouldn't have requested an updated one if that was an option.

Applied 4/29
ConditionallyApproved 5/17
Interview 5/19 10:30 AM
Approved 5/19 7 PM
Interview was just basic questions regarding what I do for work, where I live, any other country citizenship, if I have been convicted, anything expunged, any custom related issues at any country then took my pic, said I will get my new card next year (after current one expires)
everything took about 30-40 min most of it waiting.

Would not be a bit surprised that renew interview requirement is somewhat random.

Been a while since I last posted.
GE Due to expire in September 2018. I did let me APEC card go as I don't have bonified business dealings in SE Asia any longer.
Applied for renewal: May 21, 2018
Acceptance: June 10, 2018 (Sunday morning- seriously, even after checking last night before bed)
No Interview Required
Very high number of countries visited during my entire time in the program including multiple resident and business Visas depending on the country.
So I would have to agree with 1KChinito after looking at my well-worn passports that it does, in fact, appear quite random.
Cheers

Do you get a new GE card when you renew (showing the new expiry date)? Does it depend on whether you have to go for an interview or not?
