Global Entry Reapplication / Renewal (required every 5 years)

You can proactively initiate the renewal process before you get your expiration notification from DHS, which seem to be going out to your email address of record a few months prior to expiry.

You may reapply for Global Entry renewal as early as one year prior to your membership expiration date. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...-membership%3F If you are currently approved, your new GE validity will be five years from your next birthday.

If you allow your Global Entry status to expire, even by one day, you will need to submit a new application.

Your Global Entry expiration date will show when you register and sign in to the new Trusted Traveler Program website https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/ If you can renew, you will see a white on blue "RENEW" radio button.

Reapplication requires filling out an application form essentially de novo, including listing citizenship or residency documents, whether your driver's license is EDL conforming, aliases or "AKAs", new jobs or address changes since application, all countries visited the last five years (the form sorts them alphabetically, and does not request date or year of visit) and payment of $100 (for five years of GE renewal).

Don't forget some credit cards will give you credit for PreCheck application or renewal, $85, or for Global Entry etc. renewal, $100, every five years (Barclay Aviator Silver, American Express Platinum, etc.) Iterestingly, they may not cover NEXUS, which is $50 - and if you have NEXUS, your GE will be subsumed by NEXUS.

After one to a few weeks, you will likely receive an e-mail informing you action has been taken on your application; you will have to log in to your account to determine what that action has been. The average time for processing is 7-10 days (excluding government shutdowns) but it is not uncommon to wait 1-2 months.

1) You may be approved, with no further action on your part necessary; your GE will be extended five years from your next birthdate. For an example of an uncomplicated renewal without requiring an interview, see this post by mre5765.

2) You may receive conditional approval. To receive full approval you must schedule (not have, just schedule) an application interview within 30 days of the e-mail being sent. You still have a hoop or two to jump through.

3) You may have not been approved. See instructions on line to proceed; this information refers to reapplication, not how to appeal or reverse the denial.

If your renewal application takes inordinately long to process or you experience other difficulties, see Frequently Asked Questions or contact or email your questions or request for support through the CBP support portal.

Re: Your application for the Global Entry Program Membership #"123456789"

Dear "JACK FROST":

We are pleased to inform you that your U. S. Customs and Border Protection, Global Entry membership application has been processed and you are now invited to visit an enrollment center to complete the enrollment process.

In order to finalize your Global Entry enrollment, you must schedule your Global Entry Interview within 30 days of the date of this letter. You do not have to complete the interview within 30 days. To do this, please log in through GOES (Global Online Enrollment System) using the user name and password you established when you completed your initial application. Once you have logged in, please schedule your interview using the blue "Schedule Interview" button located on the right side of the screen. If you have already visited the enrollment center for this application, please disregard this letter.

You must bring the following original documents with you to the enrollment center:
  • A valid passport. If you travel using more than one passport, please bring them to the interview so that the information can be added to your file. This provides you with the ability to use either passport at the Global Entry kiosk;
  • A permanent resident card (if applicable);
  • Documents providing evidence of residency. Examples are: driver's license (if the address is current), mortgage statement, rental payment statement, utility bill, etc.
When you visit the Enrollment Center, we will review your application and any additional information you provide at that time. We will verify your identity, review your documentation, and take your fingerprints and photograph. Finally, we will explain the terms and conditions of the Global Entry program and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Your Global Entry membership number is, "123456789", if your account is approved, this will become your Known Traveler Number for your TSA Pre-Check benefit. For more information on the TSA Pre-Check program please visit their web site at www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck.

Thank you for applying to the Global Entry Program. If you have any questions, please visit the Global Entry website at www.globalentry.gov. You may also contact the CBP Info Center at (877) 227-5511[img]data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABAAAAAQCAYAAAA f8/9hAAABcklEQVR4XpXTPUvDUBTH4aR2c2hBQXGpTiIORhBcBOvg YKf0Awi+4Ggr1MVPIIrYdnEpShddHIyLi6AVXVxsRRDRwbi4KN gu4lCIv8i/i6QRDzycy+09555LqOl5nhEUptPoJe1iDHU8oYlrlDw79m4QEb SLPexzsIc8hDRm8YBjLpj4q8EgxQdab+MNd4ghhQ2adIc1+ORA FEnWWfTDRp7GDfImlsIavKALLuqoqMGUCs4wHtagiQ5uc8kDyC OBKlP1k78QNTOZnMXCQRxWsbjl6iuskV41SQG2Gj9rikvcR1Wc gKFDBa1LOEUK56hqv8BUFV3SGWkVS9JQ6Dsv4wQ1DKMPORUvkm 78BhdQMI1CTa5I0yrcwSFqFD+SZ7DQesIkCG5S/JpkHYERQRmuNsrZ7Grc+Ef8/Bcoslkfae8Wc7CUHZ++TuAEBj86pHntjaDKXllPy6PW/gkKFaThwp/K87N8hDcQTTKKFTioSxqB8Q2BNX5JtAljwgAAAABJRU5ErkJgg g== or by visiting their website at https://help.cbp.gov.

When you look at your GOES profile, you'll be able to see the Conditional Approval notification letter, as well as:

Application ID . Application Source . Program . . . Application Type .. Status . .. . . ........... .......Action
1234567 .. . . . GOES . . . . . . . . . . Global Entry . Renewal .. . . .. . ..Conditionally Approved
Under "Action" will be a blue radio button to schedule your appointment. In my case, the earliest date at DFW was a month out, but I'll try to schedule a date when I have a long connection.

You should prepare for your appointment as if you were newly applying, with passport, naturalization certificate or whatever you're using to establish qualification as well as documents establishing residency (state driver's license, senior identification, etc.) you will also have your fingerprints and photograph taken.

Be sure to mention anything you've forgotten to list in your application form, and to disclose any incidents such as being arrested (not just if you were found guilty) or Driving Under the Influence - alcohol or any substance - AKA "DUIs" (some posting in this thread report they were asked if they'd been charged with DUI);,these folks access various data bases, at least one of which includes data going back to the 1950s. Some members in this forum have posted they had trouble or were initially denied for not mentioning those incidents, even juvenile records that should have been expunged.

If your reapplication is approved, you will generally be notified quickly.

Your Global Entry Program Number / TT# and your PASSID will not change.

There are several credit cards such as the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant that give rebates on the Global Entry fee once every five years.

so who knows how this works and incredibly frustrating given I've now had 2 full trips without pre-check. Wonder if its even worse when one has a govt security clearance given the posts on this board.
As repeatedly demonstrated in this and other threads, "first in, first out" is NOT how GE renewals are processed. Rather, it is essentially random that a renewal takes as little as 1 week vs up to 6 months.

Since renewals can be submitted up to 364 days prior to expiration, skip the anxiety and put a note on your calendar TODAY to renew one day after your birthday - the year prior to GE expiration.

Next time, mark your calendar to renew at T-364.

My SO applied for renewal 12/29 (expired but within grace period) and still "Pending Review." Super frustrating but is what it is I suppose.

Good news, I finally got approval on Monday 3/4/19 for a renewal that I applied for on 12/17/18. No interview needed and card in the post apparently. Expiry was on 3/31 so cutting it a little close. Perhaps they do look at the expiry date when prioritizing who to process next? Either way I am relieved! BTW I never received a single email about my application, acceptance, processing, approval etc. Seems like this is a polling activity, no chance of an interrupt.... .

There is hope...

I seriously doubt that is the case. Individuals renewed shortly before or after expiration date, still taking various amount of time to be either conditionally approved or approved.

It is best to renew at T-364 next time to avoid any anxiety.

I'm glad that you got your renewal, however, it was not cutting it close. As long as the renewal application is submitted before expiration of the current membership, the member continues to receive all the Global Entry benefits pending the final approval for up to 6 months after the expiration date.

Boy, I wish I had know about that 6 month "grace" extension. Not knowing about it, I let my expiration date go by and did apply for renewal for a couple of weeks, which has already cost me 3 months with the benefit.

Not generally, even as that (ie, membership expiry date and/or expiry date+6 months) would make sense if it always happened that way. CBP doesn’t even have the process in place to grant GE membership renewal without interview to all of those current GE members who receive conditional (renewal) approval while still having c. 11-18 months to use GE without doing the required renewal interview (at which time they may or may not get final renewal approval). In other words, it’s possible to be “trusted” enough to continue to use GE a lot but still not be granted final renewal approval as a GE member.

Applied for renewal on 2018-12-24. I was conditionally approved yesterday, 2019-03-06. I didn't receive an email - I just happened to check this morning and notice it.

I'm confused what you're saying here.

Just that having applied for renewal at, say, 12 months from expiry, you continue to have GE benefits for a further 18 months.

However, in the renewal process running in parallel, you might get conditional approval 10 months before expiry. At this point you've still got 16 months of GE left but, if you have your interview and don't get approval (however unlikely that might be, it's still possible), you would lose any unused 'grace' period the scheme was perfectly happy to allow you.

I guess that the moral would be to leave your renewal interview until as late as possible.

Wife and I applied on 2-18-19 for our first renewals. She received her card yesterday (neither of received any emails). I signed into my account today and I have to do the interview!! (UGH)

only difference between our applications is my passport was renewed since we signed up for program...hers is same.

I made appt then found the "you can do interview when arrive in the US" email from them...We are flying out and back to US in May, so I'm going to try to do that.

Before I found email about arrival interview I had made appointment for regular interview. I went to cancel it BUT was greeted with message, "if you cancel interview your application is no longer valid". (so I changed to date after we arrive back and hopefully we can actually do the interview upon arrival??)
