US/Canadian-issued ABTC can only be used to access the APEC/Crew/Diplomat lane. It does not replace/waive any visa requirements. Chinese embassy webpages mentioning visa not being required is for ABTC with CHN endorsed on the back. No US/Canadian-issued ABTC will have that endorsement.
The button to renew your US/Canadian ABTC will appear in your profile 30 days before the card expiration date.

I’m a US citizen. I thought you can have your interview at any GE enrollment center. It’s forcing me to go to a NEXUS enrollment center, and it’s hard for me to go to a NEXUS enrollment center.

When I got my APEC last year, I was able to finish the enrollment at a GE center (EWR). Could this possibly have something to do with the US government partial shutdown? I've read on various threads here about GE appointments being canceled. Perhaps choosing a GE center has been temporarily removed as a choice.

I just applied for APEC business travel card, the application was surprising easy. After I paid the $70 fee, BOOM! I was conditionally approved. I go schedule a appointment, it only allow me to schedule a interview at a NEXUS enrollment center ... ??? I logout, log back in... same thing. I can only schedule a appointment at a NEXUS enrollment center.
Did you finish the interview? In the conditional approval notices, they say "A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer will collect your digital signature to complete your enrollment, as this is required for card production.", I'm not sure whether we have to wait until the shutdown is over.

I am thinking of applying for an ABTC and I am Canadian. Does anyone know if I can get a free reissue of the ABTC if I have to change passports? My passport is valid for 5+ years but I might be running out of pages much sooner than that.

Nope. Your passport number is printed on the ABTC card.

I don't know if it changed, but ~18 months ago in SFO I didn't need an appointment for the APEC interview. I just showed up at the enrollment center and waited for them to come out asking if anyone had appointments (I said I was there for an APEC interview and I think they took me in either right away or maybe after the next person). (I'd wait until after the idiotic shutdown is over to try it unless you're in an airport anyway).

Anyways, from my experiences entering Australia via SYD and MEL, the SmartGate lanes are usually quite short and take 5~10 min to get in. I doubt APTC lanes may have any practical advantages.

ABTC also used to allow you to use the Express exit through customs, but they no longer allow that.

ABTC will buy you nothing at SYD, with the possible exception being if you're travelling with someone young enough that they can't use the gates (below 16 for a non-Aussie I think), although even then it's debatable if you'd be able to use the ABTC lane. The Smartgates are always going to be a better option.
- Queues at each kiosk is 6-8 people (to get your ticket) ... and then 100-200 pax trying to squeeze through the hall to the smartgates
- If the face recognition doesn't work, then the "special assistance" line doesn't do any favours. And my chip isn't reliable (or my face).

Am Canadian, and my NEXUS is expiring next year, so I figured I'd go online and see what's up. I found that I could apply for an APEC card so I decided to do that while also submitting the renewal for NEXUS. So eventually (around September/October of this year),
Did someone in the government mix something up? Or is this just messy handling on their part and that I should just keep waiting for the APEC?
- For my NEXUS, I was at the "Wait for conditional approval" stage
- For my APEC, I was "Schedule interview" stage
