The Jet Centre is actually listed under the check-in section of the e-ticket itinerary, however it is easily missed.
That is completely understandable wanting to spend more time with your relative prior to your departure.

If on your next trip you were being seen off by a relative again and wanted to spend time chilling at the airport, you could always drop your luggage at the airport's First check-in desk then head over to the Jet Centre, allowing ample time for the departure.

I wasn't aware that the Jet Centre is listed under the check-in section of the e-ticket itinerary, so thanks for pointing that out!

The Jet Centre did feature on BA.com up until about 2006. I read about the launch in the Sunday Times travel supplement. Later that year [2004], we flew CW to BGI and were given a leaflet promoting it when the immigration forms were being handed out. The following and subsequent years no leaflets were handed out on the outbound. We have bumped into quite a few fellow CW pax at out hotel over the past couple of years, and probably half of them have been unaware of this facility, possibly due to lack of communication/promotion.

One other positive point about using the First departures lounge that I forgot to mention is you are allowed to leave the lounge to go outside. However, for security reasons you are not permitted to leave the forecourt area/front of building [probably so they can monitor you on CCTV]. When you re-enter the reception you literally walk through security again.

Finally, if you decide to to use the lounge and time permits for some duty free shopping, they will arrange for a driver to escort you over and back again.

Enjoy!
