What I hate about the US airlines Y meals transatlantic are:
1.No proper desert. I get very upset when I get a measly cookie for desert and usually they are disgusting.
2.Green lettuce as a starter.
SWISS are no better. I try to only fly these airlines if I have a free ticket from a frequent flyer program.

Well a very entertaining read Kevincm! Thank you ^
Indeed what a wonderful IFE system tailored just for you.
I'm sorry to say this, but it has been a while since I've been in the back of UA aircrafts and it's good to hear that it is still survivable
. I do hope that you could at least try the new C or F when flying UA. I do have to disagree with your calling of LHR as 'hell' however. Atleast when flying UA (Yes, the security on T5 when flying BA could be absolutely horrifying) the agents are nice and T1 isn't bad considering with the much improved Star Alliance lounge.
Thanks again.

Nah, just pratical in the end
Alas, since I don't do Mileage plus (38k a year on UA = *S, BD *G, nor collect chickletes and the photography hardly makes enough money to cover hotel at the moment so I'm consigned to T bucket and below ticketing.
I can pray for an op-up, but as a mere Star Gold...
Hmm. US can be reasonably good when it comes to desert (although I am sick of the carrot cake out of PHL)... Even UA out of LHR can be good - the pinch point seems to UA's catering out of the USA... where it's weakest.
Now if the cookie is an Oreo, I'm interested....
The "lettuce salad" was quite frankly a waste of time. The Sesame dressing helped a tiny bit - but not a lot.
I'm going to be trying Swiss sometime - if not for the decent yield EU mileage runs that are on offer.
T1 with it's constant updates is a better experience than it has been, however, I still can't stand the place (the prices into London make it expensive, least by coach, even more by rail).
Alas, I'm still disagreeing there. Mainly because there are better options for me in the UK (BHX at a push until we get decent widebody operations there, MAN at a priority as there is less rushed, and I don't feel as crammed in as I do at LHR). As I'm fond of saying, there are other places to the UK than London. Being based near BHX, I have a variety of options, with both LHR and MAN over equal distances to each other, making MAN a default choice when I can avoid the Heathrow rat runs and 3 mile hikes.
If you want connections, then yes, LHR is your best bets. However, there are other entry points into the UK that can be be very pleasant.

Actually I was in Row 40 orginally on the way back.
There go back as far as 43 on a UA777
, and Row 39 on a UA767
(You need a flashlight in those rows to see the front)
Thanks Moomba. However, you know there's nothing like earning status than sitting in the back of the plane and pondering how hard to kick the seat infront of you
... maybe I should arrange a mileage run for you
Thanks camsean
As explained above, Y is normally the only class of travel I see, therefore I try and be honest as possible in my reports. Lets face it, not all of us can afford F/C class tickets (or get the right chicklettes, or score and op-up), so I make the best of it as I can, and report what I see for the good of all (except Moomba. I feel the need to share with him a US Airways Pasta Bake tray meal
).
Certainly I've had crappy, super crappy and totally crappy flights (Do I even need to mention the companies?), but this was a pleasant set of flights in comparison.
I shall boldly continue to type where the seats have little recline, where the seat infront of you is far too close, where the meal is served on a tray (if you've been good) commonly known "Where the seats have no name"
until one day, I get that C/F Class redemption in (alas, if it's the choice of the race to Gold or the comfy seat, the race to gold wins for now).
On that day, be VERY afraid

I've done my time down the back - don't worry.
I did the real commuter run from LHR - SAT every month for 13 months and then LHR - YYZ every month for 18 months all in bosom of AA, AC or UA and all in whY.

Wuss
... but understandable
Ahh.. bless. I can understand why you'd be Passionately Addicted after suffering that for so long.
Thank you for reading
Thanks lucky9876coins... again, I am to humour (as much as you can when writing)
The getto IFE (again - inspired by other sources) amazingly works well, but it does show that 1) IFE sometimes need to be varied a bit and 2) Keep the map working at least PLEASE (Map + Channel 9 = Happy Kevincm).
Of course if I was in the new C, I would had got the new sync cable and plugged it straight into the IFE system that's iPod compatible ....
One day
