The light was just amazing the day we visited Sintra. This photo, taken on the return trip from Sintra to Lisbon at Cabo Roca, is just one of many reasons I want to go back to Portugal.

Does this look familiar?

If this looks familiar, that's because Cheepneezy had this scene posted earlier. Thought I post a close-up of that. Just love to see how nature carves out images of a bird and a monk.

Having lived in your area for many a year, I can testify that Seattle does indeed have a shortage of Red Rock. Kind of strange, really, since volcanic rock is not infrequently red and you have lots of volcanoes nearby.

Still, IMHO, it is one of the most photogenic places in the world and I'me confident it will be an inspiration for many future themes.

This is shaping up to be yet another hot contest ^

brahms77, the "Shadows in Sedona" are very cool.

I think I've been over that bridge, allset2travel. That is the last bridge over the Grand Canyon?

I love how the tilted rock intersects the sharp lines of the building mijugo. Waiting for your second entry

You must have been there on a really rough day, avidflyer. I've rarely seen our Pacific so excited.

And hoyateach, that picture shows perfectly just how empty this country is when seen from an airplane. @:-)

Great entries everyone, keep 'em coming! ^

Ornatista

An ornatista is a marble carver who specializes in ornamental work- foliage, scrollwork, and other elaborate ornamental detailing.
This Italian ornatista is carving the leg of a red marble baroque fireplace.

Italy, Apr. 07

Rosso Laguna

A three ton block of Rosso Laguna marble being sliced into slabs on a "monolame", a massive single bladed saw. The continuous water feed keeps the blade cool and washes the slurry of stone dust from the saw kerf. The slurry is recycled as building material, and the water is filtered and recirculated.

Italy, Sept. 06

...........
birdstrike,
Sorry, I have no idea if this was the "last bridge", since I did not travel the Grand Canyon in its entirety.
The latest bridge (which I have not visited yet), built on Indian land, is called SkyWalk, a glass bridge. It looks really cool. Use this link to see it for yourself,

I really want to visit the SkyWalk and jump up and down on it!

24 hours left in this contest. . . I'm sure we have some more great Red Rock pictures out there. @:-)
