Yes I have, in the opposite direction. We flew right over the top of Ruapehu - fantastic views.

You now have Christchurch - Mount Cook/Mount Cook - Queenstown to travel now. Seems this is just a trial/promotional route in January. AirNZ are offering this for $114 at the moment. Im still hanging out waiting to see if they offer it any cheaper. Definately on my to do list. I think Mount Cook Airlines are operating it with their ATR 72s.
