AA First Class "Musical Chairs"?
 

Four Sundays in a row, I have noticed on the AA MIA=>JFK flight that there is a PAX in First Class who engages in what can only be described as "musical chairs". Instead of immediately taking his assigned seat, he usually makes himself comfortable in the first row. When he is told that he is in the wrong seat, he never puts up any argument, but simply moves from one unoccupied seat to another, by my count, as many as four! The first week I noticed him, I could only assume that it was an honest mistake. The second, I became intrigued. The third, I couldn't believe that it happened again. The fourth, I was with a travelling companion and I told him what to expect...and he did not disappoint and merrily bounced around the cabin from seat to seat. Although there are usually a couple of empty seats in first on Sundays, I do not think that he is upgrading himself, once on board, as he has produced a First Class BP when asked. Strange, don't you think?

Maybe he wanted to see where you were sitting before making his final decision.

Apparently he detected the same nauseating odor that the OP thought was emanating from the bathroom adjacent to security.

Maybe without realizing it, he is making mockery of the TSA directive to stay in your ticketed cabin....no one said you had to stay in your ticketed seat!

Maybe this guy doesn't realize he can preselect seating online? Or he never gets "the" seat he would prefer if he'd only thought about it? Maybe the other seat is greener? Maybe he is leaving bugs on the seats for others? :eek:

(Just brought back a memory I have managed to suppress for many years - a MX flight that had been who-knows-where in its most recent scheduling, and endowed me with a nice case of scabies. A whole gamut of emotions ensued, along with lindane lotion, lots of laundry. :eek: :o :( :mad: )

May be he has dyslexia.

If he does it again next week why not ask him what he is doing. I am sure we all can;t wait to find out.

I'd be willing to bet that he is on occasion upgrading himself.

That reminds me of a time when I was the first person on board an MD80, sitting in F.

This old man wobbles in and sits down in the first available seat, 1B I believe. I questioned whether or not he belonged there, he didn't look like an avid traveler. Of course a few moments passed and the person's who belonged to that seat showed up and he got escorted back to his coach seat.

Hard to say if he was trying to upgrade himself or if he honestly didn't know what he was doing.

I'm always amused by this, if I were an FA I think I would find myself saying, "Sorry, sir, you don't get this nice big comfortable seat. Let me take you to your small cramped seat in the back of the plane."

Maybe he's just testing them all out, like Goldilocks ;)

Funny, but he doesn't really look the part - dark hair, middle-age, average height, dark suit, light blue shirt, tieless, black rollerboard carryon, leather computer bag, laptop, cellphone with extra large/long antenna...

A truly evil person with lots of time on their hands might be tempted to report him to pilot/FA/TSA as acting strange...

Not the same at all, since this guy flys all the time (and in F), but I've noticed that, for whatever reason, people boarding the AA SAAB flights from SAN-LAX never seem to understand the concept of assigned seats. They grab any seat they like, even discussing with each other where they'd like to sit. (They also make endless remarks about how small the plane is, even on the nice roomy 240+Bs with the extra few inches of bin space!)

What? Nobody yelled "Hey this isn't coach! You don't belong here!"

It is clear to me that the gentleman is a classic Type A personality who is simply marking each seat with his scent.

Yesterday, "Goldilocks" bounced around the cabin, trying out as many as three seats in First this time before ending up in his assigned seat in the bulkhead row. With two seats and an aisle separating us, I was still not close enough to ask him why he does this, but yet far away enough to feel safe by the window. Used to the routine, a FA knowingly just rolled her eyes.

I mus say, I find this truly bizzare...but intriguing at the same time!
