robbed in aruba - rci style
 we arrived in aruba 8/28 at 12noon at aruba beach club via RCI. They sent us to a room at 1pm and people were still in it. We kept our bags in the lobby with about 12 others. After reading this, you see why I am shocked they didn't get stolen. We finally got to our room about 5pm.. We went to dinner and got back to the room around 9pm. Went to bed around midnight. Woke up around 8am and saw my wallet which was on the table when I went to bed gone. WE immediately went downstairs to security. It's a sunday there, so nobody of importance was on duty. While talking to security, a lady (angel) comes to the front desk with a wallet (cc, license, everything there but $1500 cash). Why I bought that much is beyond me. The police come and I proceed to tell them the story. They file a report and leave. Now, after concerning ourselves with my wallet and all information, we go back to the room to change. We notice our camera is missing...We report it to security to tell them to notify police and add it to the report. After we go to the pool, we get back to the room and in the middle of getting ready for dinner, we find out a watch is gone. We go down to security and tell them that another item is taken. While we were in the office, the guard was watching a camera that was viewing next to our room to see if any perpurtrator was seen. We were watching it for a little bit when all of a sudden, the screen goes blank for 3 minutes.. WE KNOW WE GOT ROBBED BETWEEN 12AM AND 2 AM (thats is when the lady found it on the beach). After all this, we speak with the GM on monday and all he did was give us 2 breakfast vouchers and a dinner. We called insurance and let them kknow what happened. The police did not want to release the police report. Why!!!! I don't know....We find out later from our insurance company that the officer said we've done this in the past..WHAT A BUNCH OF B.S....Why would we waste 5 days back and forth to police and insurance...UNREAL..Our phone bill was $275. All of the calls were to insurance and police. They gave us a $200 credit....RCI DID NOT WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING...ACCORDING TO THEM, THEY DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT....we were thinking of getting a timeshare down there too. we are young with a 1 year old son (thank God he wasn't in the room when we got robbed) I actually wish I woke up and nailed the burglar. I'm from NY so we never forget..... BOTTOM LINE --NOTHING WAS DONE AFTER ALL THE HEADACHES.....WE PLAN TO WRITE CHIEF OF POLICE TO REPRIMAND THAT OFFICER AND THE TOURISM BOARD.....

This is a sad trip report.

Don't you think he's embellishing just a little :o ....that story is a crock. C'mon....burglar doesn't only strike once...but two..and even THREE times!! Maybe the officer had a point when he mentioned that the victim had done this before! And $1500 in his wallet??? Of course there was a decent amount of cash in his wallet..... ;)
What does being from NY have to do with having a good memory? Why didn't he ask the officer for proof that he's done it before? |
Crock---i Wish This Happens To You

What does being from NY have to do with having a good memory? Why didn't he ask the officer for proof that he's done it before? WHEN YOU LOSE YOUR WALLET WITH EVERYTHING IN IT--YOU DONT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE...UNFORTUNATELY, THE TIME IN WHICH WE FOUND OTHER THINGS TAKEN WAS AFTER THE FACT (BURGLAR CAME ONCE BUT WE DIDN'T KNOW THE OTHER THINGS WERE TAKEN UNTIL LATER)...SO IN THIS DAY AND AGE THE VIOLATED ALWAYS IS THE CRIMINAL.....THAT IS THE SAD PART TODAY---WITHOUT PROOF , YOU HAVE SQUAT...WE ARE NOW A STATISTIC |
This is a crock....you say you didn't even notice that your camera was missing until you went back to your room and changed...and the watch...didn't know it was missing until dinner????? C'mon...do you think we were born yesterday....$1500 in the wallet why????? You said it was "beyond you"...well...it's "beyond us" too, how someone could make such a sophomoric mistake. First thing I (and everyone else on the planet) would've done was to determine exactly what was missing..,.THEN file the report! You filed incomplete report...tried to amend it....it looks bad.
Oh, and by the way..it won't happen to me....I don't make amateurish mistakes. ;) I smell bull**** |

Crock and Bull lets put an end to this thread, it's a miserable trip report, it should've been in the police report thread. :(
Oh, and by the way how much are you planning to sue for , just curious ? |
Welcome to Flyertalk stevec. Sorry that your first post here had to be about such a negative experience.
I don't think it is my place to comment about the authenticity of any other user's personal experiences, so I will kindly request everyone to simply take what the poster says at face value and move on. You are always free to comment on his experiences, but to imply that he is lying is not an appropriate way to welcome a new user to the boards. Perhaps a more diplomatic set of questions surrounding the circumstances might be in order if you suspect something amiss? Stevec, may I also request you to kindly edit your posts to remove the all-capitals formatting that you have used. This is considered poor netiquette and is one of the rudest ways to post on the internet. Thanks in advance to all parties for their co-operation in the matter. I'm sorry for your experiences and for your reception on FT. I'm not sure what you'd have to gain by lying about this here, so I do take your word for it. While I know if my husband's wallet was missing, he'd immediately look for his camera too, I can certainly imagine being so focused on that loss that it would be easy to immediately not think to look for what else might be missing. What would be most disturbing to me is that someone came in your room while you were in it - frightening.
While this could have happened at a hotel as well, my own pet peeve on timeshares is that I see them as having little need to satisfy guests as their units are sold and so what's to gain by them by providing good customer care? While you learned a less the hard way, I'm sure you'll also avoid carrying large amounts of cash in the future as it's so easy to rely on ATMs in just about any part of the world. I hope getting this off your chest was at least somewhat therapeutic. Regards |
thank you

Regards that is the scary part---what if our son was in the room...everyone says we were lucky I was still sleeping---I wouldn't wish this on anyone--we did learn alot here..We should of made sure what was missing as soon as we got back to the room after the police left.. your right, I went to the ATM twice for 2 two hundred dollar withdrawals....you don't need cash at all...that is what is so upseting....We just can't believe that we got no help whatsoever..they obviously didnt believe us either.....the funny thing is that they found a syringe a few rooms away and downplayed it too.....i should of used that $$ and stayed at the hyatt......we did hear that people get robbed there too |
something doesnt make sense
The OP said in his original post 'we went to diner got back around 9pm and went to sleep at midnight', in his last one he says it was agood thing his kid wasnt in the room at the time. What did you do put the kid outside along with the cat?

As for RCI, they are simply an exchange company. Their business is to take your week at XYZ resort and trade it for someone else's week at this resort, so that you both are "happy". Would you be mad at your stock broker if you got food poisoning at the shareholder's meeting of the stock you bought? RCI has nothing to do with the actual service at the hotel, they are simply trying to make it so you could have gone to Aruba for a small additional fee. PS-Welcome to Flyertalk.. :) |
Didn't you lock your door when you went to bed?
You should always use any and all deadbolts, chains and other locks when you're in your room, especially when you're sleeping. For security in high risk places, or places with bad door locks, you can travel with something like this: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/security...ordoorloc.html |
