You mentioned in the comments you bought groceries - was it hard finding everything you needed for a meal or was it reasonable? (I’m not talking about “oh, no truffle oil today” but more on the order of “no meat todya, trucks comes next weekl

also, now secure did you feel? Were you ever worried about being really alone in the wilderness?

I remember when I was in Namibia, the biggest concern everyone - including the locals - seemed to have was going out on my own in Windhoek. I was strongly advised against walking out of the train station to get some food for an upcoming 36 hour train trip, upon which there was only vending machines with candy bars and warm canned sodas. I kinda had to go out.

Basically, I took the approach "Walk like you belong". Body language can say a lot to both human and animal predators. Walk like I could be a predator - with purpose, no day pack, no camera. Bottom line for me - no problem. That day.

Out in Namib Desert, we were told to be alert to out surroundings, but otherwise, no worries.

Sorry for the late reply. We found that groceries in town (i.e. in Windhoek, Swakopmund, or Walvis Bay) were easy to find and reasonably affordable. We weren't looking for high-end items, but rather things to cook in camp.

Security wasn't an issue outside of Windhoek. In town, we were in by nightfall, but during the day we felt totally safe.
