I should note that in Myanmar you can buy Johnny Walker 'purple'.
The off license I visited there had a whole wall of JW bottles, all with mangled caps and labels at odd angles with various different colours. |

A brisk 20 minutes stroll brought us to Mother India’s Cafe where 6 of us are now salivating in anticipation, some more than others eh? crazy8534 ;)

Chilli Garlic Chicken, Pilau Rice, Chapati…. A wise choice, possibly not, but absolutely delicious!!

The experience is certainly not for everyone, but I would disagree that it has a "millennial style." It is mimicking what Disney has been doing for 70 years. |
After a delicious meal it is time to head to Ten Hill Place to meet up with everyone else. Conversation and beer is flowing nicely :)

After a few libations we have headed of to St Giles for the ghost tour. Our guide for those evening
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d27bf5787.jpeg This is going to be a highly cheesy tour :D |
Always good to see my hometown feature in a TR. looks fun, enjoy!

And a highly cheesy and thoroughly entertaining hour and three quarters. The tour was the haunted graveyard tour by City of the dead, and I recommend it for a bit of fun.

Time now to close off this thoroughly enjoyable day with a coffee before a good nights sleep. |

Good morning from a bright and sunny Edinburgh’
Only kidding! Another gray and miserable start to the day here in the Athens of the North. Breakfast is very similar to yesterday however the fizz has been replaced with a Bloody Mary station. Can you spot the ingredient for the local derivative? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...72fde0a63.jpeg I was going to settle for a bit of toast this morning but the toaster is set to Luke warm, so using the lightly warmed bread I settled on a good old sausage sarnie https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9e46cf782.jpeg it is now 09:20 and I’m still on my first coffee, so some lingering is going to be required. Once sufficiently caffeinated, it’ll be time to pack up my room, lodge my bags for safekeeping, and head over to the meeting point about ten minutes away to commence todays fun. |
Enjoying your report as usual! I always look for walking tours wherever I travel.

Bags dropped at reception and a ten minute walk has brought me to our meeting point for this morning, Ten Hill Place Hotel, the same place we met for drinks last night.

Whilst I sit here enjoying this coffee I’ve a few minutes to reflect on my stay at the Hilton. My first instinct was to be dramatic and say that it was abysmal, but it wasn’t really, I’ve stayed in far worse. It was, however, very disappointing for a Hilton.
The staff were sub-par, inattentive on reception, housekeeping banging on the door despite the do not disturb sign, shouting in the public spaces. The building was ratty and tatty, the executive lounge simply was not either executive nor lounge. The food quality was really bad, this mornings sausages were cheap and tasteless again. I’d not recommend this one until all of the renovations are completed, and even then I’d be dubious. |

It appears to be a triumph of failed millenial style over substance. Normally my flat cap and dour expression would stop anyone attempting to put 'mood lights' in a bar, but the chirpy hosts there would be having none of it I think. It looks like it is aimed at an age range of 18 to 18.5, or possibly just aiming to convince rich Japanese and Chinese punters that what they are drinking is desirable in some way. |

Respectfully I have to disagree Sir Slam, looked much better than other similar experiences, eg Guinness tour in Dublin!
But each to their own in this world, the only freedom we have in life is the freedom to choose, even if that choice is wrong :) |

Yes the sausage did look a little light on meat! Makes KARFA little sausage look tempting!
Thanks for the Dan Air Comet pictures, one of my first flights ever was in one enroute to a school cruise very many tears ago and exactly in the friendly seats where you faced each other. |
Loved the fact that the Comet had no seat belts, an early adopter of ying/yang, and that babies were sometimes put in the overhead bins to sleep or settle them.
Also, the door entrances were so low even i (a vertically challenged person) had to duck down to get in - something to do with windows being larger, square shaped and prone to breaking so door ways made as small as possible. |

All too soon we were making our way back to Edinburgh and it was time for everyone to scatter. I grabbed my bags from the Hilton and headed to the zoo that is Waverley station and am now comfortably ensconced on the LNER train to Kings Cross, non stop to Newcastle.
I was also Lucky enough to get a pair of table seats for the trip back. I did have a first class ticket for 17:30 but didn’t really see any value in hanging around for another three hours, better to get home at a sensible time of day for once! https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6491930ce.jpeg |

Otherwise you can always change your Advance to a different date/time by paying the fare difference plus an admin fee of up to £10 (some retailers waive this) prior to departure. That would at least retain most of the value of your 17:30 ticket (you can do as many changes as you like). |

If you have an Advance on several companies including LNER, worth noting you can use SeatFrog to "train swap" on the day, i.e. change your ticket from your current service to a different same-day one. Often minimal cost or even free, if it thinks the new train is quieter.

To add insult to injury, the sausages were tasteless, the falafel greasy and soggy, just a very poor showing.[/QUOTE]
It looks awful, reminds me on low level pay lounges at the airport. |

Arriving at Newcastle station exactly on time, the station and the road outside is awash with runners sporting their medals and silver heat blankets.
And that brings this trip to an end as most of them finish, with me writing this update whilst sitting in an Uber heading for home. Something of a different weekend but good fun. Unless I decided to do something stupid, the next trip will be a tier point run booked way back when I was young and foolish, 15 flights in total to San Jose California and back. |

I've just realised a certain FTer in the photo has a passing resemblance to James Quinn, of Early Doors and others fame....
