Recovering my baggage from the locker at the moxy I ordered an Uber which set a new Bristol record by arriving in under a minute. From Uber arrival to reaching the Bristol lounge was exactly an hour and that was split almost perfectly 50/50 in travel time
and airport navigation.

The cab dropped me off at the dedicated drop off point and from there it is a very short stroll through a covered tunnel to reach the terminal building. There are signs everywhere detailing the drop off charges

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...35a88f855.jpeg

Entering the terminal building, arrivals is to the right, checkin to the left, and departures on the first floor. There was a significant queue at the easyJet desks but as I am travelling with hand baggage only I headed straight to departures

Clearing security took around ten minutes and that was with no fast track and included a secondary screening for the obligatory iPad swab. Once past security there is the standard duty free shopping run before you arrive into the terminal. I was surprised at how large the terminal is, at how busy, and at how claustrophobic the first floor feels with the low ceilings and even lower support members. After a long march in what felt the entire length of the building, I eventually arrived at the aspire lounge an hour after leaving the moxy.

And finally, into the lounge. It was very busy but there was a high seat available so I took up my pew and enjoyed a cruzcampo and a sampling of the buffet

I have to say that all of the staff in the lounge that I dealt with were great, it was like being in Newcastle.

At that finally catches me up to date. The bar in the lounge closed at 19:00 and the lounge itself closed at 19:30 which is in a couple of minutes time.

I was asked by someone at the DO as to how long these reports take to write and all I could answer was “a long time”. Today I can be a bit more exact. I wrote the breakfast update whilst we were sat at the table. All the subsequent updates have been written since I arrived at the moxy and they have taken two and a half hours of almost constant effort. A lot of that time is waiting for photos to upload as FT seems particularly slow for this.

That huge amount of time taken is why it is really difficult to keep up when with someone else, I’d have to spend almost all the time with my head in the phone rather than enjoying the company of others.

Thanks for the report, an enjoyable read as always.

For your (or anyone else's) next departure from BRS, take the stairs or lift next to inmotion (visible in one of your photos) upstairs. This enables a dramatically shorter and less congested route to the lounge compared to the signposted route up the escalators at the far end of the terminal.

Thanks for the tip… where was that yesterday ;)

To be honest, glad I didn’t know, otherwise I might not have realised how large and busy the terminal was.

At 19:55 the boards changed from ‘gate announced shortly’ to ‘now boarding’. I was pretty sure they weren’t boarding but playing the game, I headed to gate 28.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f664d038f.jpeg

And, of course,
no sign of any boarding, just everyone being herded into two pens, left for speedy boarding, right for everyone else.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...51c841dc7.jpeg

Nothing to do now but sit here and wait and listen to all the screaming infants and toddlers :(

JapesUK Jul 28, 2024 1:50 pm

20:40 and I’m last man on board. Boarding was the ramps for the front and stairs for the rear. As I was all back of the queue I had a few minutes chat with the dispatcher as we slowly made our way onto the plane. Always fascinating to hear about the jobs of all the people involved in getting us safely off the ground.

The plane is pretty full and fairly hot but at least the APU is running and there is some cold airflow.

It is seat 12D again for me this evening and unlike the outbound on Sunday, the exits are full. Mr 12E seems to believe that ownership of the arm rest confers ownership of a chunk of my seat space too, a belief that was swiftly disabused!

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...def0b1f5f.jpeg

Quite a few apparent first time flyers around the rows, 12C fought long and hard to keep her handbag with her in the exit row, 13 E was the same with her bag!

The pilot has just announced that a defect has been identified on the engine and now we have to wait for the engineer to check it out. Speed tape time :D

Next Stop: Newcastle, Eventually, Hopefully!

Huge admiration for the report, your walking mileage and dedication to recording it so well. Of course it was lovely to meet you too. Hope you make it back home relatively quickly, of course.

JapesUK The energy is inspiring! Loving the UK based trip report. It’s easy to forget we have so much interesting stuff on our doorstep!

Another one that looks like it had a recent refit as the cabin once again is nigh on spotless. At first meeting the crew once again seem very pleasant and capable.

Once the engineer had cleared us to fly we were pushing back at 20:55 and were off the ground and on our way to Newcastle by 21:10. With an actual flight time of about 45 minutes we should hopefully be at the gate in NCL a fraction after 22:00.

Buy on board service started around ten minutes into the flight again and this time around I thought I’d give the americano a go. Again, perfectly adequate for an in flight coffee.

The pilots announcement to prepare the cabin for landing at 21:40 caught the crew by surprise, they hadn’t even started the litter collection!

We were on the ground at 22:50 and a brief taxi to the gate. Usual straight through to landside, albeit with a few more stairs involved :D

One minute to wait for the Uber and then home sweet home.

I’m not going to go crazy and say I enjoyed the two flights but actually they have surprised me in a number of ways, the main ones being how good both crews have been and the second being how clean the planes are. The whole easyJet experience has way surpassed my Ryanair experience when I flew with them to Faro. I’d definitely consider flying EasyJet in the future.

And with that, the trip is done. Thanks for following along with this somewhat different little jaunt and see you all on the next one.

We have had a real random wander across Bristol, and the watch is telling me we walked well over 20,000 steps which seems high but maybe it’s right, and maybe it is awarding a bonus for my nearly exploding my heart - more on that later!

It was so much fun exploring Bristol with you and being part of your trip report. When I got home, my watch showed 20,000 steps! You definitely outwalked me, all in the name of capturing every interesting detail for your readers.

They charge per 10 -20 min? And here I thought that LGW or LHR charges were outrageous. I wonder if the airports will ever drop them.

I had a fun, if somewhat sunburnt day :) did take a somewhat meandering route back to the Moxy which probably added a few thousand more.

I heard the comment from a number of attendees that friends and family though them to be mad.

I can definitely relate to that :)

Outside of FT and some other similar communities, I have not told anyone of my ITA forays in more detail than "I'm going to fly a bunch to get my gold card locked in" and if/when I make my Lufthansa Group lounge safari, it's not going to be different.

In fact it reminds me of a particular segment run, when my sister was visiting. I'd left her pretty stunned in mid-morning with a cheerful "enjoy your day, I'm off to Copenhagen, back for dinner" :D

I just realised that I buried one picture in an update that I meant to call out individually. Radiation Station , look, they built a pub just for me :D

Thanks for another of your great trip reports. Don't think I'd recognize my old stomping ground now over 50 years ago; no way to avoid those hills... In my early days there would see Concorde regularly on test flights and later would have the chance to do two TATL flights on Concorde.

Thanks for sparking old memories and once again showing how much can be crammed into just a couple of days.
