Can also people who are too lazy to write TRs join this DO(s)? 😁
There are a lot of places in SE Asia I haven't visited yet (e.g. BKK), so wouldn't mind going there |

If you (or anyone on here really) happen to pass through BKK, I would be happy to meet up for a beer or three - DO or not :)

It has been quiet in this thread, so I suggest something to liven things up. How about organising The Trip Report DO in Bangkok next year?
I have already found two volunteers willing to help (more volunteers are always welcome). I'd love to hear your suggestions (either by replying to this post or you can message me directly): 1. The Date(s) for the DO 2. Activities (ideally related to flying :) ) |

Suvarnabhumi PR? |
November ‘25 is a long way away, and so is BKK for a lot of FT members, so I’ll throw an additional idea into the pot (additional, not alternative, who says there should only be one DO :) )
Any interest in Sinsheim and/or Speyer in, maybe, June so that the weather is hopefully decent for both outdoor exhibits and beer gardens? |
They're both great museums and Heidelberg being nearby is a nice town to spend the night. Reachable from FRA.
Unless something changes, or a great fare just happens to coincide, count me out from BKK. I'm done with flying Y on longhaul if I can the least bit avoid it, and premium cabins are way too much to fill under funny flying budget. |
Interested in a Euro-based do!

1. The Date(s) for the DO
MAN-BKK-MAN is 150000 Avios + £ 590.93 on QR which is pretty good value and seems to have decent availability. |
For the BA\OW folks I could add that UK-BKK in J is also relatively cheap in cash and doable as a BAH for double TPs :)
As Catweazle intimated, I would probably also go for a 'reach' destination beyond BKK. But I suspect that we are in the minority there. If those work, they seem to be done as optional add-ons not actual destinations for a do. |

Argh, I'm pulling my afro out because I just saw this thread. I'm in Dubai, and Singapore is my favorite city on the entire planet. Nuts. I'll be monitoring this closely because I'm down to clown wherever the next one ends up being located since Dubai is in such a good location to get to either Europe or Asia.
|
I would definitely be enthused to do a BKK do, and I have some contacts who I could tap into regarding chartering a train carriage to go to Kanchanaburi and tour the Bridge over the River Kwai and the Death Railway, and organising some street food tours, and visiting the floating markets.
Definitely plenty to do in BKK and some very photogenic places not far from the city and within the city. |
Did anything ever come of this?
Possibly interested in a European venue |
I'm still up for Europe with a two month lead time. Possibly Sinsheim and Speyer in June.
|
I’d be down for this.
|
I could be interested, for sure. It'd be great fun, and cool to meet some of our well traveled brethren and hear their stories in person. As with many here, so much depends upon location, date and personal availability. Imagine if we all booked rooms aboard a train somewhere - say, the Caledonian Sleeper or the Empire Builder - or met upon an Emirates A380. The lounge would be crackin'!

How about second half of August or first half of September and visit Sinsheim?
I would love to go back to Oman or visit BKK, but I should be realistic 😃 |

Should be OK, no guarantee yet, but highly likely I'll be available.
|
Would be great but that weekend I'm coming back from Downunder.

Not a morning person so I vote for 18:00 😁

LHR-STR scheduled for either 08:15 or 18:00 on 12 September. Are you looking at the earlier or the later (and presumable pre-trip-report-do lounge crawl in T3)? Or another airline entirely?
|
I'll pencil in Sinsheim on 13th. Google Flights is telling me the absolute cheapest flight is 270 return for barely more than an hour block, I don't think that will do. so might have to commit the grave sin of not flying in.
|
Okay, then BA920 on Sept 12th for those who want to join lounge crawl.
Itinerary is Sinsheim Tech Museum and/or Speyer Tech museum on Sept 13th plus maybe morning of the 14th? Ideas for hotels and eateries? BA919 STR-LHR goes at 12:00 or 19:05 on Sunday 14th. Then I would take instead KL1834 to AMS at 18:15 and have first flight on my home carrier since '96. (And Japes, KL961 goes onward to NCL at 21:15 as I'm sure you've seen.) |
Not booked a hotel yet but thinking something very close to the Hbf to knock a chunk of the Saturday travel time there and back. Food wise, a brauhaus or two works for me :)

Of course, should have known. I'm not gold yet, so can't pick 1D, will have to sit behind you if you promise not to recline into my afternoon tea.

Might be a bit too difficult to reach for me, but I will try. I will have burnt my Avios by this summer so unless they accept a burnt GGL card as payment… :D

Trying to leave 2026 as virgin territory in case I become a free agent. Last minute rewards seems to be the way to go on most carriers. |
