The Sauvignon Blanc was a complete flop, I can only describe it as boring. Wakefield Promised Land also by the glass and a much nicer glass and went well with the chicken noodles

The food has been delicious, the best meal I have had in Bucharest. Unfortunately this means I must try the deserts, just for completeness, you understand.

JapesUK Oct 16, 2023 12:18 pm

All of the deserts sounded excellent and so it was servers choice again and she chose the Caramel Toffee which was light and fluffy and an excellent end to a fantastic meal.

A meal this good deserved a cognac (any excuse) and so I am sat with a Remy Martin XO and a cappuccino and, I know I’m repeating myself, to close out the best meaI I have had across all my Bucharest trips.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d11a93ce9.jpeg

Also worth calling out the impeccable service which was the absolute perfect mix of unobtrusive yet attentive.

Total bill was close to £100 however a goodly chunk of that was the cognac and I consider tonight very good value for the quality of the food I have enjoyed.

Don’t think I have ever used that many superlatives in a single update but all of them well deserved.

A well deserved dinner after a harrowing day at the dentist.

I have promised some views of the hotel and as today is the day I wake up at stupid o’clock here we are. 4am and the hotel is deserted, the lights are low, and security are suspicious - but eventually decided I was harmless if somewhat eccentric.

This Radisson Blu bills itself as the largest 5 star hotel in Bucharest and I can quite believe it. When you add in the adjoining Radisson Park Inn this hotel is immense.

The view from the hotel entrance. Aristocool is the restaurant/bar that takes up the largest part of the hotels ground floor open space.

And then…

Finally…

The first floor corridors smell unpleasantly of gym/pool and are to be avoided. Having followed the breadcrumbs to the rather dowdy gym lift my card failed to work. I suspect that Radisson know, quite rightly that I have no place being in a Gym!

It seems that breakfast time is destined to have fawlty towers overtones this week. Today it’s not the guests, its the lounge attendant who is seriously angry at someone. After a very brusque greeting I have been merrily sitting here for the past hour and a bit drinking coffee and catching up on mail, world events, etc and for the entire time she has been in the far reaches of the lounge giving someone hell on her mobile phone.

There have been absolutely no other visitors to the lounge so far this morning so I suspect she will continue venting her wrath until there are. In the meanwhile, A La Carte is Off The Menu :D

Beautiful sunny morning but a day of conference calls for me unless anything changes this morning.

Time to see what the buffet has to offer :D

I may have made mention of a caffeine addiction earlier :D. In my defence, I had been there an hour and a half and one mug was still full :)

It has ended up being a full day of work today and so lunch was a room service burger very late, around 2:30 pm

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b1ce17560.jpeg

The latter part of the afternoon has been spent in the business lounge which has been my personal office, it’s been deserted the entire time. Now 6 o’clock has rolled around and people are starting to emerge for the evening buffet. Once more its a bizarre starch-less mix of beef, mixed veg, and salmon. I may try a bite of the beef a little later but having only recently eaten I’m not particularly hungry. Maybe tonight is the right time to try out champagne and more restaurant as there’s not much on the menu there to tempt me, but enough to satisfy, will see how I feel in a little bit.

Maintenance team have been busy today and the pool area is now completely deconstructed and the pool has its winter coat on.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...557c42ed1.jpeg

And now, you know what comes next… hunt the fizz.

JapesUK Oct 17, 2023 10:36 am

Popped into champagne and more but it really doesn’t spark my interest so I wandered over to Prime Steakhouse.

Ordered the olives but no such luck, so straight to the mains of Tournedos Rossini with a baked potato. I have not had this in a very long time, almost back to the 80’s dish so be interesting to see if my memories match todays reality.

A glass of Chateau Franc Le Maine 2015 St Emilion Grand Cru to accompany and let’s hope that it tastes as grand as it sounds!

JapesUK Oct 17, 2023 11:14 am

The Tournedos Rossini turned out to be pepper steak with foie, and I sorely missed the crouton, which I know sounds snobby but that soggy crispy bread is what I remember of the dish, so a little disappointed. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender and the potato and sauce good, just.. someone stole my bread! :D

It also came with a little bowl of charcoal bread, roll, and butter which maybe should have arrived earlier, or maybe they thought I fancied a steak sandwich, who knows.

The wine was very good, accompanied the steak perfectly.

Although “not hungry”, one of the deserts has caught my eye

Hi, yes these have been popping up everywhere for years and personally I like them. Not seen a dowdy set yet but can imagine some of the early adopters are showing their age by now.

Desert had to be the char grilled pineapple, and a glass of blackberry palinca as a counterpoint

Very enjoyable and a good end to the meal.

Now time to head back to the lounge for a nightcap then early to bed as dentist appointment is 8am tomorrow

JapesUK your trip reports are fast becoming addictive, I’ve had to add two new destinations to my bucket list. Your choices of food and drink seem to match mine, the Sushi restaurant looked epic, well worthy of Michelin star.

Thank you so much, it really does mean a lot that people are enjoying them as I have been surprised by how much I enjoy writing them as I go along.

You saw how I ran out of superlatives for that restaurant, sushi will never be my first choice but that meal was fantastic.

And also glad that I’ve presented the places well enough that you would like to visit, always happy to help spend other peoples money :D
