Private Jet Day Trip to California

Today Mrs. SFO777 and I are off on a short day trip to Temecula, California, some 90 minutes in traffic from any of the region's major commercial airports - John Wayne Orange County, San Diego or Ontario. So in other words... the middle of nowhere and a perfect destination for charter especially since one of us doesn't do early mornings well. LOL. While expensive, charter cuts the trip to a single day vs. the three days, two nights that Mrs. SFO777 had originally contemplated. So about a wash by Mrs. SFO777 standards.

The hangar at Centennial Airport's International Jet, our Denver Centennial-based charter company.

Our ride today, a mid size Lear 55.

After a short 2 minute taxi, we're off for the 2 hour flight to F70, French Valley Airport in Murrieta, California.

A great view of downtown Denver on our climb.

Cruising at 40,000 feet above the clouds.

Let's check out the complimentary snack selection...

Light lunch from home.

Very smooth ride today with virtually no turbulence as we begin our descent.

Landing in the rain and gloom at French Valley Airport.

I dropped Mrs. SFO777 off for her 1pm appointment and then ran a few errands and explored the area for a couple of hours.

Then picked her up around 3:15pm, called the crew and headed to the airport. The ugly weather got even worse as the rain really started to come down.

Just lovely. LOL.

We were on board just after 3:40pm but then sat on the tarmac in an ATC flow control hold for 30 minutes or so.

And we're off for the short 1 hour 40 minute flight home.

Time for another drink.

Gorgeous late afternoon above the clouds.

Continuing our descent over Denver.

And touching down at APA.

Taxiing in.

WIth our car warmed and waiting for us.

What a quick, fun trip to California. And we were home for dinner 25 minutes later.

You are averaging more than 1 report per month! Will you be able to keep up with that pace? lol

LOL. Gonna try but since I'm (almost) retired, I've got more time now. And my travel calendar is full each month except for June. Even Mrs. SFO777 will be traveling again this year with a May anniversary trip to Paris and an October birthday trip to Kona.

Temecula is a neat area. It has a seedy side to be sure but it's generally quite scenic I found. Also the Chinese massage in the Promenade mall - I walked out like Jell-O not at all what I would have expected from a mall place I just wandered into before dinner one time.

Thanks atsak. Even though we lived in Orange County for five years, we had never been to Temecula. It was hard to see much of the area given the miserable weather but I'm sure it's pretty scenic when the sun is out. There were lots of signs to wine country so we'll need to explore when we go back.

What a wonderful quick trip. I love Temecula, well not in the summer. Had the chance to explore the area when I rode a double century that took us through the wine region. Never been back for the wine. Very smart to look at time vs spend. I find myself spending more while working just for the chance to be home quicker, of course that’s on commercial not charter. 😜

Thanks very much glasman19. The timing thing of 9 hours vs. 3 days seemed to make a lot of sense. Just hope I didn't unleash a private charter monster.

Indeed an exemplary use case of a private charter. Doesn't make sense for me now, but maybe one day... that Falcon in the hangar is calling out to me.

LOL. Yeah, that Falcon was calling out to me as well, or even the Challenger.
Fortunately, a modicum of common sense prevailed as we went "cheap".
We have a family wedding trip in August and I'm definitely not going to be as lucky.

The lack of a proper caviar service will no doubt cure you of your temporary deviant ways.

Not to mention the lack of a flight attendant to mix our drinks.

We just back from a private flight RT Seattle to Hawaii. The jet going down was owned by a couple who happened to be in Hawaii and we got their jet outbound so the jet company could go and pick them up. 16 seats ( for the 4 of us) with a flight attendant to mix our drinks. Coming back we just had a long haul Citation X.... no FA. ( It was difficult)

haha DIY service - great trip report. Would you fly long haul in a private het or you would choose F in a "regular" carrier?
