Cairo, the Pyramids and Luxor via Air France La Premičre

Off to Egypt

Saturday morning and batmandds and I are off today for a quick Flying Blue Platinum mileage run trip to Egypt. Egypt requires a 96 hour prior to arrival PCR test which I took on Thursday. As a precaution, I stopped at my nearby AFC Urgent Care Center for a rapid (results in 20 minutes) antigen test just in case we needed it to return to the US early.

With a negative test in hand, I bid adieu to Mrs. SFO777 and Uber'd to DIA. Saturday morning is the time to depart DEN as the north PreCheck line was completely empty.

I had time to stop into the Delta Sky Club.

Not gourmet by any means, but Delta has better lounge "food" offerings then United or American.

At T-45, I head down to the concourse and Gate A28.

Delta is much better than American or United when it comes to boarding, as Delta First Class passengers are actually boarded in the first group, although after handicapped and families with small kids.

Beautiful Colorado scenery on the climb and route to LAX.

United serves a hot meal on this route but I wanted a longer connect cushion so I'm stuck with Delta's healthy lunch. LOL. My G&T was poured in the galley in lovely DL crystal glassware.

Descending into LAX on a very smoggy day.

AQI of 154. Yeah, that looks about right.

With T-3 still under construction, we parked at nearby bus gate, where it is was a short bus ride to T-2.

My first stop was the Delta Sky Club to wait for batmandds' MSP-LAX flight to arrive.

Lots of “food” options.

The pork carnitas was actually quite tasty.

While I had my Covid test this morning in Denver, batmandds opted to do it at LAX. We trekked over to T6 and the very efficient Clarity test facility. Oddly, it would not be his last visit today.

And then another trek to the Bradley Terminal, which was packed... at least at the south check-in counters.

Much more civlized at Air France. And La Premičre counter which was oddly roped off. Our doc check went well until we got to the Covid test part. While we both had current negative PCR results, neither of us had a test result with a QR code, an apparent requirement to enter Egypt. I got off easy when I showed the agents my French-issued Pass Sanitaire and its QR code. The Pass Sanitaire is magic as they told me that I was good to go and didn't even need PCR test to enter Egypt. batmandds, not so much. He did not have a QR code so he needed a new PCR test stat. The AF supervisor said he didn't need the result by boarding time, just to have taken the test. So off he went back to T6...

....while my La Premičre Personal Assistant escorted me thru security to the TBIT concourse.... and Vino Volo, the temporary La Premiere Lounge.

Air France gives each La Premičre passengers a $115 tab limit, apparently a change after a few expensive 4 figure "open tab" experiences. I started with a Napa Cab wine sampler...

... and the warm brie.

Our 77W arriving across the tarmac.

Once batmandds arrived, we celebrated with a bottle of Opus One, only $85 net after our La Premičre allowance.

At around T-40, our two Air France La Premičre PAs came to retrieve and escort us to our plane.

Vino Volo was a perfectly reasonable alternative to a lounge. My PA told me that she anticipated that the new Air France LAX lounge should be open by April, and it will include a La Premiere section with full La Premiere dining.

Oh my, another week, another report of SFO777 flying on La Premiere. This is becoming quite boring. I hope next time it is a TATL or Transpac on UA or AA . (just kidding, of course)
On a more serious question, are there good La Premiere fares originating in the US?

LOL. Thank you Carq. Regarding good LP fares ex-USA, Air France does occasionally have good fares generally depending on the gateway. We bought our tickets some 11 months ago in the depths of the pandemic travel drought, when airlines were desperate and LP fares were more "reasonable". The best current ex-USA LP fares are in the $7K and up range, or 470K Amex points with PWP.

My husband and I have always dreamed of a high end journey to Egypt. It has been on both our " life" lists. We actually had made reservations for a journey in February of 2020 but were put off when we were contacted by the tour company saying that our suite on the Nile boat was not available to us because it had only one bed and 2 males were not allowed to share a bed. It sort of was a forewarning of possible other uncomfortable situations.... so we bailed. ( As it turned out covid canceled the whole tour anyway).

We realize we will not make it in this lifetime....but your images and commentary are a lovely way for us to make the journey vicariously. Thanks,.

Nice! Wife and did almost the same Egypt trip in January- Loved Luxor! Flew AF Biz (no LP😅&#128517 FS First Residences and Hilton Luxor are very nice. Egyptair A220-300 is a good experience as well- lol they give amenity kits on a 1:15 flight in Business.

Like Bart Scott! Can’t wait! Do the hot air balloon tour in Luxor as well.

Have Fun!

Thank you david55 for you kind comments. Sorry to hear about your experience and that things didn't work out for you last year.

Thanks very much SeaHawg. Your night time and hot air balloon pics are spectacular. Sadly, we didn't have enough time for the hot air balloon.

Departed 2/4

Our La Premiere Personal Assistants escorted us on board and introduced us to our cabin crew including our wonderful La Premiere attendant Suzanne, who doted on us with flawless service all the way to Paris.

So happy to be back home in one of the most gorgeous cabins in the sky. And tonight it was our private cabin with just the two of us up front.

And a lovely way to start the evening.

Tonight's menu...

Tonight's amuse bouche, with a glass of Bellevoye Rouge, which Suzanne claimed was Macron's favorite. Yikes, one sip was enough as it burned its way down. Back to the 2007 Taittinger Comte de Champagne.

Showtime, La Premičre style...

For my starter, I opted for one of the mains... The Ravioli with white truffle. Fabulous, with tomato confit and zucchini.

For my 2nd main... The Lamb Tenderloin was excellent, with mixed grains and Vadouvan-flavored artichokes.

Cheese plate...

And to finish, the decadent Tiramisu.

Suzanne made my bed across the cabin in 1A, where I slept for a solid 4 hours.

As we pulled into our gate, our La Premičre limo was waiting for us.

Another marvelous La Premičre flight with outstanding service. Merci Suzanne.

I don't know how you do this re: food. I am middle aged, fairly good shape, but I've noticed my food consumption is much more limited than it was 10 years ago. Now if I eat in a (good) lounge, I have to limit my intake or else I can't eat on the plane. So good for you.

Knowing you excellent tastes in lodging, I'll be curious as to why you chose the RC vs. the St. R. When I was in Cairo this past May, a couple of other fellow FTers provided me some really good input on available Hilton and Marriott properties. I am generally happy with a clean room and comfortable bed, but having had a stay at the St. R., I am a bit spoiled now!

Excellent report as always - and can't wait for the rest of the trip. Looks like a great day/night for flying, and Air France La Premiere looks incredible as always. Business Class food looks also very good and plentiful - definitely an impressive spread on both flights!

The more I see your reports on Air France, the more I want to fly with them - and visit Paris again!

All best wishes,

Matthew

Wow! As always, I’m drawn to your LP reviews! Glad you loved Egypt! Wife and I had such a wonderful time there. We want to go back soon for a few days then perhaps to Turkey or Jordan. Hope you enjoyed the Ritz. We could see it from across the Nile.

Another great TR! I went to Egypt in 2010, a couple of months before the Arab Springs. I had a fantastic time. Your trips are so inspiring. I was looking at LP prices from the east coast and some are reasonably priced about $7.5k RT as you mentioned above. I was wondering is the hard product better on certain aircrafts than in others? If so which would you recommend?

So exciting another La Premiere trip.....if I read all trip reports on AF it seems that their F is the most consistent, and oh boy the ground service is amazing. I compare this to F on SQ and it is not that consistent and more so the lack of ground service is at times a shame
