Mandarin Oriental - Deluxe Junior Suite

We booked a Junior Suite and got a Deluxe Junior Suite. The price difference is noticeable, it´s 500 € + tax per night. I didn´t see a Junior Suite, but I´m not sure if this difference is justified.
Floor plan

Our room had a small entrance.

The room was big enough and stylish.

We had a view to the back of the hotel.

The bathroom was also stylish.

While the room was fine and the furniture had high quality, I can´t say I felt in love with it. If I consider at the moment they sell this room for 1.850,00 € + taxes I think it´s a little too much.

Mandarin Oriental - SPA

The SPA is located in the basement. The entrance has style.

The windowsless pool is dark, but again has style.

There is also a gym

I think for a city-SPA it´s quite nice.

Dinner: Seta

Of course we had to eat at Seta, the Michelin 2 star restaurant of the Mandarin. When I booked the table the Chef´s table showed availability and out of a mood I booked it.
The entrance

The Chef´s table is located in the kitchen which means you can watch the chefs, but it also means you sit in a kitchen. GF liked the pictures of the restaurant´s interior and was not amused to sit in the rather unelegant kitchen. So it was our first and last Chef´s table experience, just for this reason.

Small bites and bread

Watermelon with nectarine

Interesting and nice start
Green gazpacho with marinated beetroot with Campari and pink pepper ice cream

I liked it and found it fresh, GF wasn´t impressed
Langoustine green tempura with mussels and soy marinated grapefruit

Good
Roasted blue lobster with “Loazzolo” zabaglione, leek and Matcha tea

A creative and very tasty dish
Seasnails on a mash

This dish was a kind of game changer. I didn´t really listen to the explanation and thought it were mushrooms. When I ate them I thought they tasted strange, GF thought the same. After we ate it GF found out it were really sea snails, what she found very disgusting. I can´t say I really enjoyed it.
Risotto with raspberry and herbs cream

This was the best risotto I ate for a long time, absolutely delicious.
Conchiglie” pasta with aubergine, black garlic and tandoori

Enjoyable
Red wine glazed eel and rosemary sauce

GF was not amused as she told them in advance she don´t like eel and sea urchin. Normally it comes with fois gras, at least they skipped this. I found it OK, but surely not my favorite dish.
I can´t really say what this was, but I think some mackarel.

It was OK
What looks like a dessert was a sea urchin cream with some fruity foam

You can imagine what GF said.....
I can´t excatly say what the dessert was.

But I remember I liked it.
Petit fours

I generally enjoyed the dinner but must say Chef´s table is not really my cup of tea. Food wise some dished were great, some dishes may have been tecinally good, but they weren´t my cup of tea. We paid 230,00 € per person which means a huge surcharge for the Chef´s table, a surcharge I wouldn´t pay again.
I wanted to eat a second time at the restaurant, but GF contradicted.

Great looking breakfast. That is not good about the restaurant not honoring requests. I am surprised they did not replace the eel and sea urchin dishes immediately with other options.

That breakfast looks like the best meal of your entire trip! Elegant surroundings, too.

We didn´t complain, I ate it. I better never ask how they do the risotto for example. I guess many risottos on vegetarian menus are done with chicken or beef stock......

Perhaps not the best meal on the trip, but definitively the best breakfast after a while. From tomorrow I´m back in Italy, hope to get some good breakfast again.

Super TR, I really must visit these museums. I've always said that's there's a lot more to Milan than meets the eye.

Milan - Gelato: Ciacco I

Ciacco Lab is in my opinion one of the best gelaterias (I know).

Every gelato I tried so far was top notch, I also love their creams.

The granita is also great.

Milan - Santa Maria presso San Satiro

I did a little church-tour, first stop was Santa Maria presso San Satiro.

The current church was mainly built in the 15th century.

I think the gym had a better view than your room at the first hotel. 😜
