From the vault: Switzerland in 2005
I know, special times. While I prepare for an upcomming trip to Italy with stops in Switzerland I had a look in my old pictures from my last trip in 2005.While I not really decided were to stop in Switzerland I thought it could be interesting how things were in 2005 and to compare with today. So I decided to do this short (nearly historic) report.
Traveling in 2005 was for me very different from today. I still visited university and while I had (compared to today) a lot of time, I had to look a little bit more on costs. Fortunately 1 Euro was around 1,55 Swiss Francs These days, today it´s 1,06 .
The planning of the trip was also different. While I look today were the nicest hotels are, I searched in 2005 ebay to get cheap vouchers. Many Hotels like Swisshotel Basel and Zürich or even Montreux Palace sold their voucher directly at ebay, so I had to take what´s available. In the end I was proud I was able to buy 16 nights for around 1.200,00 € which would have cost regulary over 5.000,00 €.
In the end this was my liternary:
2 nights Basel (Swisshotel)
1 night Zürich (Swisshotel)
2 nights Bern (Allegro)
2 nights Engelberg (Ramada)
2 nights Geneve (Ramada)
2 nights Geneve (Intercontinental)
2 nights Montreux (Palace)
not in this Report:
2 nights Heidelberg (Europäischer Hof)
1 night Lämmerspiel (Landhaus Waitz)
Btw: When we started our car made strange noises so I feared the wheel bearings were damaged. As only one day were left I had no other choice than try to get with it through vacation. In the end it came out fortunately it were only uneven worn tires, but driving with a rumbling car is not that much fun. Also I got many "Special" Looks with my 8 years old luxury car, an Opel Vectra B 2,5 V6. Some doormen were really upset they had to park it for us and let us feel what they thought about it. Today I would laugh about it (don´t buy cars for others), but it was an important experience. To be honest I would fire such arrogant staff immediately.
But let´s talk about the nice things. I´m still impressed how much we saw, you could also say we rushed through Switzerland. We were young.....

Swisshotel Zürich
Our beautiful hotel, the Swisshotel Zürich. Located outside the city.
Our wonderful room. Was also available with "open bath", so without wall and toilet in the room.
Best thing by far was the SPA at the highest floor with nice views.
