Christmas in Paris via Delta One Suites and Air France La Première
This morning, Mrs. SFO777 and I are off to Paris for Christmas week. We've rented a two bedroom apartment in the 7th and will be spending most of the week with our Denver son and daughter-in-law. Although we are flying Air France La Première home, we're on Delta today and their new Delta One Suites. Not only was timing better but the price was certainly right at only 55,000 Flying Blue miles each. I dropped Mrs. SFO777 off at Terminal 2 while I parked our car in the T4 garage, as we would be arriving back at the Bradley Terminal. The zoo that is LAX...
https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8594_0.jpg Twenty minutes later, I'm back in T2 to pick up Mrs. SFO777 at the Delta One check-in lounge. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8596_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8597_5.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8598_5.jpg Surprisingly, we were escorted from the Delta One check-in lounge to the PreCheck entrance. There was no one at the PreCheck line and we were at Gate 21A (aka the bus gate) a couple minutes later. The TBIT bus departed as soon as we boarded. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8600_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8602_4.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8605_5.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8606_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8608_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8610_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8612_4.jpg Los Angeles LAX to Paris CDG Delta DL 118 777-200ER 12:20p-8:00a +1 December 22, 2019 Delta One Suites 3A and 4A https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8613_5.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8618_4.jpg Business Class was invited to board after the usual handicapped, families with small children and those needing extra time. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8621_2.jpg The new Delta One closed door suites. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8622_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8623_3.jpg Mrs. SFO777's suite 3A... https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8625_3.jpg ... and my Suite 4A. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8626_3.jpg OK so it's not First Class, but for Business Class, it's a very nice product. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8627_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8630_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8633_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8634_1.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8635_1.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8636_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8638_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8640_4.jpg Today's menu... https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8641_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8643_3.jpg With lots of pleasant and normal (compared to AA) sounding menu items. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8644_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8645_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8646_4.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8647_1.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8649_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8650_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8651_4.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8652_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8659_1.jpg Once in the air, our excellent cabin crew started 10 hours of terrific service. What a difference from American and such a pleasure to interact with genuinly friendly, service oriented staff who seem to love their jobs and airline. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8663_1.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8666_3.jpg The starter tray with onion soup, proscuitto with mozzarella and caesar salad. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8667_4.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8669_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8671_1.jpg Mrs. SFO777 enjoyed the vegan Baked Rigatoni option, with mushroom bolognese and Parmesan cheese. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8673_2.jpg My Marinara Braised Meatballs were delicious, with tomato, garlic bread and Gioia ricotta. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8675_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8676_2.jpg My cheese plate and a glass of port. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8679_3.jpg Limited snack basket station in the galley area at the front of the cabin. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8681_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8684_4.jpg Neither Mrs. SFO777 or I slept much as we both thought the bed, without any mattress, was just not very comfortable. I did manage three hours of so-so airplane sleep and then took the breakfast tray mostly for the photo op. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8685_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8690_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8692_2.jpg We landed early but then taxied forever around rainy CDG... https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8696_3.jpg ... to a lovely remote tarmac position. Ugh. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8700_2.jpg Where we waited 10 minutes for the stair truck driver to show up. And when he did, he chose the uncovered stairs instead of the adjacent covered stairs. OK, we are not in La Première today. :D https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8704_5.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8706_1.jpg Our packed to the gills bus to the terminal. Fortunately, we were one of the first ones on the bus and snagged two seats at the back of the bus. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8709_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8711_4.jpg The Priority lane was manned and we saved a lot of time bypassing the masses... for now. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8713_3.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8715_2.jpg https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/s...IMG_8716_3.jpg Since it was Christmas, we checked a bag but it came off the carousel pretty quickly. And then there was the ordeal of trying to exit customs with a lot of brain dead zombie travelers who just stood there with the luggage blocking the way for anyone that wanted to get out. We eventually escaped, found our driver and were on our way. Bottom line. Delta One is an excellent Business Class product with the best and most consistent service of the US3. At the right price, I would definitely fly them again. Then there is Mrs. SFO777, who was not as kind. After starting off the day by commenting how friendly all the Delta employees were and noting that she was happy to be flying nonstop Business instead of First Class via Frankfurt, Mrs. SFO777 had done a complete 180 just 10 hours later. She was now adamant that "I never want to fly this Delta plane again" and "I'd rather fly First Class and connect in Frankfurt". LOL. That's the princess I know and love. :) |
Happy New Year, SFO777 ! Feels like we've been long overdue for another TR. Looking forward to following along.

OMG - the food! Amazing food. Have a summer trip booked to Paris in July and going to try some of your places.

Looking forward to this! That was the same weather we had when we were in Paris for Christmas last year.

Happy new year! Missed your Trip reports

Excellent report as usual, SFO777. It looks like you had an amazing trip to Paris - and gave me lots of ideas for when we might go there sometime! I've been through CDG a few times, but not been inside the city for a while.
My wife and I flew to Vienna through CDG with Delta in Delta One back in November, and really enjoyed our flight with them a lot. I'm planning on writing a report here soon actually of that flight. You captured it; the staff is what makes it. Our flight attendant serving us was awesome, and made us feel so welcome on board. The food was very good as well too. Looking forward to your return flight! Matthew |
Cheese, foie gras, and more cheese
Great TR as always
How many kilos did you gain during that trip ? ;) |
I was just thinking the other day we need a SFO777 trip report. I love the apt in Paris. The Eiffel Tower view is incredible. Can I ask what that item hanging in the living room area? It looks like a stone relic of some sort. It goes well with the decor. It just caught my eye.

Happy New Year! I always enjoy your trip reports. I've never been to Versailles in the winter so enjoyed those pictures of the gardens, and I wrote down some of the restaurants in Paris as I will be there in July. Keep travelling and writing.

Your reports always make me envious. I appreciate the link to the site where you booked your apartment. Can you share your methodology for picking this particular apartment? I think I can figure out the one you selected from their list... just wondered what the process was, what came in second and third etc. We travel with my brother and sister in law quite a bit so a 2 BR apartment is appealing.

Although the agency we worked with, responded to our inquiry and managed the reservation was parisforrent.com I researched a few sites but wound up concentrating on parisperfect.com and parisluxuryrentals.com. We had used parisperfect.com before but not parisluxuryrentals.com. In the end it was easy. This was the only apartment in the 7th that had two full king bedrooms and two full ensuite baths. There are lots of 2 bedrooms with one king but the second bedroom is usually too small and/or no bath. We booked last April so didn't have to look for a second or third choice. If it was just the two of us, we would have booked something smaller and had a lot more options. |
A great getaway to the French capital, SFO777:).
Love all the tasty food, with everything from the le Champeaux Burger with foie gras to the La Truffe Noire Spaghetti. Never realised there was a Michelin-starred restaurant up the Eiffel Tower, although not sure if it earned the SFO777 seal of approval though:D. |
Happy belated New Years, and many thanks again for a great TR.
Looking forward to more trips that you share with us in 2020. |
