Venice: Aqua Alta Bookshop

The bookshop is quite famous and claims to be the most beautiful bookshop in the world.

They have a nice selection of books and postcards. One special thing is that the room is flooded from time to time so many books are in swimable containers like a gondola.

In the backyard is a stair made of old books. which were damaged by water.

The view from the stairs:

Venice: Chiesa Luterana di Venezia

In Venice is also a protestan church.

It had some surprisingly art in its rooms like paintings by Tizian, Lucas Cranach and Sebastiano Ricci.

Venice: Ca’ d’Oro

Ca’ d’Oro or the golden house is a palace which is especially for the facade which was covered with Gold in former days. Here pictures from the water:

The ground floor with the Canale Grande entrance:

The palace is also pretty nice from inside, but the really don´t like people taking pictures....

There is also a loggia with a view:

Venice: Santa Maria Assunta

Santa Maria Assunta or I Gesuiti is a Jesuit church with a nice facade:

The interior is opulent:

Dinner: Il Ridotto Venice

For our third evening I wanted to try something "Michelin-starred". My choice was Il Ridotto, which had reasonable prices in this overpriced town.
The restaurant is relative small (as indicates the name) and modern furnished.

We took the nice Courses tasting menu which was a surprise and came 140,00 €.
First the Amuse Bouches

Now the menu. The Tortellini were unfortunately filled with chicken, so not suitable for us.

Petit fours

Service was friendly, but not polished. The food was solid, but not outstanding. The risotto for excample was very spicy, perhaps overspiced for my taste. Andy Haller wrote he couldn´t understand the Michelin star. Personally I´m not so sure but it wasn´t at the upper Edge of 1 star level. At lunch they offer a menu at 35 €, which is a steal in Venice.

Venice: Transfer Canale Grande

Next morning it was time to say goodbye to Sa Sagredo and to move to the Aman. We took a water taxi, the ride is less than 5 minutes. The good thing is you see something from the Canale Grande, the bad thing is it costs you 60 €.

Venice: Aman

We arrived at the pier of the Aman, after a few moments the concierge came out to help us with our bags. From outside the palace is a typical Canale Grande palace with 2 obelisks at the roof. At the left we could see the Canale Grande garden, one of only 7 in Venice.

This is the garden:

There is also a garden at the back of the hotel.

There is also a house cat:

The entrance at the back.

I booked my stay with Virtuoso, which brought me the usual benefits. Prices at the Aman Venice are not what I would call a bargain. In April we paid 1.375 € for the cheapest room. To be fair rooms are in size more or less equal, differences are the view or little things like a fresco. We got an upgrade to the second category, a Chamber Affresco. It would have been 550,00 € more per night.

Venice - Aman

We first did a tour of the hotel. The ground floor is like at many other Venetian palaces the less spectacular. Beside the garden there are a few chairs in the lobby and desks for concierge and reception.

The stairs to the first floor:

Venice: Aman

The first floor is the most spectacular part of the hotel. First we stood in a little anteroom:

But now the hall, one if not the most spectacular rooms I have ever seen in a hotel.

In the morning you can have breakfast here or in one of the other rooms on the floor. The bar:

Adjected is the yellow room, used as restaurant.

The view from the window:

The blue room, also used as restaurant.

The second floor is reserved for guests of the Aman. Again a little anteroom.

The layout is similar to the first floor, but the hall is a little bit more sober.

At night:

They also have a room with a Tiepolo:

The yellow room at the first floor is blue on the second:

The library, on the table a model of the new Aman New York.

From the second floor we had to go to the Annex in the back of the palace to reach our room. There was also a sitting room.

The floor in front of our room:
