Are you flying back in QF F? Out of which port? They normally call the day before to offer but I can DM the direct number so that you can call them. The jury is out on whether they call international mobiles/guests.

Great photos and you certainly saw a different perspective of Tassie from the air.

Thanks m0hamed. We're already home having flown back in Business on the BNE-LAX 789. Bur we are returning in August and I'll definitely contact QF prior to our LAX-SYD departure.

I was called on my UK mobile the day before my F flight on QF out of Melbourne to Singapore in October - they asked if I wanted to book a spa treatment and no offer was made of an escort (either on the phone or on arrival at MEL)

Another great TR, SFO777. Some beautiful scenery from the R44 in southern Tasmania. Those sea cliffs look so surreal and cinematic.

The Qualia Resort looks stunning, and the to-die-for dining. A great flight over the Great Barrier Reef too^^^

Great report so far. Gives me some ideas for a future trip. It's too bad that QF's F service is not up to par. Two years ago, I flew SYD DXB LHR. I was quite comfortable in the 380, had the 'tasting' menu for dinner, and the service was impeccable, starting with the chauffeur service from the Marriott - Circular Quay. At LHR, I then had to transfer to a 'Eurofraud' BA flight to CDG...what a let down (although a great FA on the flight).

Oh my. I initially though that the Qantas Hobart Lounge was a "one off" that just needed a refresh but it seems like the other lounges have slipped. They used to be among the best domestic lounges in the world at one point (my humble opinion) with great wines and tasty food available.

Special recognition is deserved for the first helicopter vineyard-crawl that I've ever seen. I'm feeling inspired...

Lovely pictures. I always enjoy your reports. Meanwhile I'm stuck in my office thinking about future trips!

Nice job.

As always, what a fantastic report.

Sorry to miss you in the QF F lounge on the 26th. I was there for a few hours in advance of a CX to HKG an hour after yours - and had dinner right beside one of the guys in your picture! Looks like the trip kicked off 2019 well, and all the best for happy travels in the year ahead!

What a fantastic review! For anyone contemplating a visit to Hobart, it is worth mentioning that Marriott, Hyatt and IHG are all opening properties over the next 12 months ( Marriott will be LC, IHG Crowne Plaza and Hyatt is Centric, IIRC). The Islington is great.

Mrs. SFO777 is not a morning person, so this is not going to be a good day. Our 6:50am Qantas flight to Sydney means a 4:30am wake up. The drive to the airport was 15 minutes and we arrived around 5:30am or so. With no one in front of us at security, we were in the departures are a few minutes later.

The good news is the Hobart has a Qantas Club.

Unfortunately, that is also the bad news. Although reasonably large for such a small station, none of the seating looked comfortable, and the place had a foul odor, which matched the mood of the unfriendly lounge dragon.

I'm guessing that the griddle without any exhaust fan was source of the smell.

After 30 second walk around and some pics, we left for the much more comfortable departures area.

Seats 2DF

Boarding began at 6:25am with a call for all to board. OK, so what is the point of the Priority signs?

2-2 Business class seats which were not very comfortable, compared to AA's old Mad Dog seats or even Delta's 717 seats.

PDB offerings of apple juice or water.

Mrs. SFO777 wisely passed on breakfast and tried to sleep. I decided to try the frittata.

With salt and pepper, the frittata was passable but the spinach and sausages were pretty gross.

On the other hand, the warm macadamia bun was delicious.

The Bliss Balls were OK.

No wifi on this plane although entertainment is apparently streamed to your personal device... if you have the Qantas Entertainment app, which is not the same thing as the Qantas app. Jeez.

We arrived SYD about 20 minutes early and were at the gate a few minutes later.
