im obsessively airport early because as a child I saw my father miss a flight back when the family could go to the gate. A year or two ago my wife was late at jfk (on a solo trip) and as a result our son and I couldn’t fetch her at sfo and she had to take a taxi home. My wife still dislikes my need for early airport arrival, especially if the flight ends up being delayed because she can’t comprehend why we need to be near the gate during a delay.
