Air Canada Business Class Tokyo Haneda to Toronto Pearson B777-300ER
Intro
This trip report covers Air Canada flight from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Toronto Pearson Airport.
Background
In September 2017, I took an around the world tour using Aeroplan, flew in business class for all the legs, except for KIX-HND. Used 150,000 points for redemption, using the 1 stopover - 1 destination - 1 stopover and unlimited layovers rules, and booked it via phone. Total taxes were around $700 in addition to the points spent. Itinerary was: YYZ-MUC-CGN-VIE-HKG-KIX-HND-YYZ using Air Canada, Lufthansa, Austrian, All Nippon Airways, Starflyer, and Air Canada again on the way back from Haneda. I'll be posting several other trip reports in the next few days/weeks with various different segments. Trip report video also includes a takeoff video (albeit in the evening without much light) and some inflight control demos.

AIR CANADA - AC6
TOKYO HANEDA TO TORONTO PEARSON
September 17, 2017
Departure: 17:40 9/17/17
Arrival: 16:45 9/18/17
Seat 2K
Pre-Flight I had just arrived from my Starflyer flight from Kansai and landed in Tokyo Haneda. Narrowly missed Typhoon number 18 which was headed to Osaka and expected to reach Osaka at 5pm, my flight left at 2pm. All flights after 4pm were cancelled. Escaped getting stuck for a day or two!
The morning forecast had called for 350mm of rain!
There was a bit of rain in Tokyo when I landed, wasn’t sure if it was from the Typhoon, but was hoping my flight to Toronto wouldn’t be delayed or risk getting stuck. Pretty heavily turbulence during the flight for the first 2 hours and meal service was delayed quite some time, presumably due to the clouds from the storm. Photo here landing in Haneda. Had to take the bus to the domestic terminal. Then transfer to international terminal, and go through security. Probably took around 30-40 minutes in total. Not bad at all.
Departures sign, my flight was scheduled to leave 10 minutes early? Perhaps wanting to get out earlier to avoid possible bad weather.
Air Canada business class passengers can use the ANA business class lounge – so that’s where I headed.
Entrance had several Star Wars figurines – neat!
Good selection of Japanese sake in unique-looking dispensers.
Variety of sushi, hot foods, bread and also ramen was available at the noodle station.
View of the lounge, quite busy, but lots of seats available.
Shot of the B777-300ER for today’s flight. Luggage being loaded.
In-Flight
Boarded shortly after – fairly new business class pods here.
Panorama shot of the seat. Newspapers were provided, the menu, blanket and noise cancelling headset.
Menu for today. I chose the Japanese meal.
Tough screen seat, lights controls.
USB port, power port, remote and headset. Nice storage bin.
Pod-like seats. Some storage near the aisle available as well and a coat storage.
Sake available for today’s flight.
Had a club soda for drinks to start with some nuts.
Appetizers – really good! Along with a cup of green tea.
Sake as well…
Main course (a bit disappointing) compared to the appetizer. Comes with a miso soup.
Followed by some fruits.
And desert – ice cream!
Got several hours of sleep, watched a movie or two and it was time for brunch – with a cup of coffee.
Paella with squid for lunch – pretty good.
Approaching Toronto, right before descending into the clouds.
Overall
Have been on the old style Business Class pods (tried it when they were brand new). I think these new pods are much better, lots of storage everywhere, power, USB, controls for everything, screen was large and seat was quite comfortable. The food was good – except for the dinner main course which I thought was mediocre. Definitely a turbulent flight for the first 2 hours, but after we passed that area, the flight was quite smooth the rest of the way. ANA definitely has a great lounge in Tokyo Haneda – hope I’ll be able to go there again in the future. Beats the Air Canada lounge in Toronto hands-down.

Nice report but WOW just WOW on the dumpy food.
I recently flew in the back from HND to YYZ. It was so horrible in terms of service and the amount of food in the entree (thank god we decided to eat at the great cafeteria place down towards the Royal Park hotel) that my travel partner indicated they would rather fly through the US and the EU before she would ever get on AC again.
What is very very sad, and with an upcoming J trip to Japan, I am 100% sure AC is getting none of that business, it looks like even in J the portions are horribly small. I am not a big eater but this, is frankly, ridiculous.
This meal including breakfast is appaling for business class on any airline IMO. I truly believe the HND to YYZ flight now that I have seen business food has to be worse catered than even charters. Shame on your dumpy AC.

Every non-stop transpacific flight I have ever taken arrives on the East coast of North America around the same time/date as departure time.
Your flight arrived 24 hours later. I didn't think the plane had enough fuel to fly for 36 hours
