Hey that looks familiar, except I saw it in Singapore last August. It appears to have gone through some stuff in the meantime.
Love this trip report, was last in Hong Kong last year and miss it every day. Truly one of my favorite places on earth. You reminded me of some great memories. Can't really do better than that skyline view from TST. Here are a couple shots from my last visit.

Phew! Thanks for those amazing pictures DanielW - certainly captured the essence of the city and it looks like you've had a brilliant trip.
I almost booked HK for my April outing (opting for SG again instead) but now wish I'd gone ahead. I haven't been to HK for almost 18 years so I'm way overdue I think.

Thanks, Jaimito Cartero. Off to the airport next Friday for my first trip of 2018, so hopefully some more TR's to come.
Fantastic pictures. It made the familiar look fresh again. I loved the aerial shots of ships in the harbor. I was fascinated by your food tour including some tasty dried fruits with which I was not familiar. And the dim sum looked remarkable. One of these days I need to remember to have Michelin reviewed dim sum while in Hong Kong.
It is very interesting to see places I used to know very well through your eyes! "Used to know" as last time I was in Hong Kong Kai Tak airport had'nt closed yet (I left the last week it was open!). For instance, the photo of Aberdeen Harbour was a shock; not only the Apartment Towers on the right of the photo were not there, I wonder whether they are on reclaimed land since I remember a very open harbour.
Great photos are a trademark of your Trip Reports!

Thank you, swingaling. Yes, TST can get busy, especially at night. Must be the place to be I guess.
Thanks for the correction on 11.11, G-CIVC, I guess the bus advertisement was mainly for mainlanders then?
Cheers, Kurt.
OMG, great photos and a wonderful trip report! I could almost imagine myself there. Your food tour looked really good. We like to do things like that when we travel.
Question - the cardboard cubicles - I am not familiar with this tradition. A person just makes a space for themselves and meets friends there?

Thank you, aquamarinesteph. The people in the cubicles seemed to be Filipino and Indonesian ladies, so I guess they were maids and nannies just enjoying/socialising during their day off(?).
Many thanks, frankmu. Yes the food was definitely a highlight of the trip, just wish there was a Tim Ho Wan in Dubai now.
Thanks, kosy91.
Yes, some great places to eat. Really glad we went on the food tour too with Danny the local. Showed us some great places we would have never gone too otherwise.

Fabulous report! Was half expecting a war to break out in the middle, to make you feel more at home on your trip!
In retrospect, did you think you made the right choice staying on Hong Kong Island instead of Kowloon?

When I went to Hong Kong in April of 1977 I did not like it. It was also hot.
However I was there in December and loved it; much cleaner. The weather was like Spring. So much progress in 40 years. We saw the Aqua Luna but as we had a harbor view room and took the Star ferry we did not bother. Shame I did not read your report before I went. That old restaurant you mention looks interesting. The train ride to the airport also looks more fun than going by taxi but we had too much luggage.
We went during the day to look at the view. About 1 hour in line. Did not want to repeat this at night.

Great TR! Glad you enjoyed! You saw so much as usual and I'm glad you found a reasonable (HK standards) place.
can you get good dim sum in Dubai? I assume yes but don't know. I know a lot of people in California are excited with DTF (Din tai fung??) dim sum but as I live in SF, we have enough places. Plus of course it's relatively unhealthy so I can't eat it like when I was a kid.
Did you find out the name of the steamed fish? To me it looks like steamed rock cod but I'm going by memories of steamed fish in Chinese (Cantonese) restaurants
and sf restaurants often say "Chinese broccoli" instead of Chinese kale for the gai lan
very fun!! I was only in HK in 1992 and 2001. Good memories...

Awesome shots as usual! I had a similar experience when trying to take a taxi up to Victoria Peak except I believe none of them even accepted the trip. Maybe for next time, but I ended up taking an Uber up for only a couple dollars.
I'm headed to India this week with a 14-hour layover in HK, now I just have to decide which of your "days" I want to do! I've already seen enough of Kowloon and the city so I'm thinking of either doing the hike or heading to the Aberdeen area.
Can't wait to see your trip to Ethiopia. I had planned on going there last year but settled on South Africa/Namibia instead so hopefully your trip inspires me to go in 2019!

Many thanks, Madone59. A beautiful and modern Asian city with a hint of bladerunner and a real delight to photograph.

Thanks, ROCruiser. Yes, a great break away and definitely hope to head back some time soon.
Cheers, NYC Flyer. Yes, a great city to spend a few days with some great sights as well as tastes to take in.

Many thanks, ChiefNWA. I'm not too clued up on ride-hailing apps so definitely need to sort it out. 14 hours will be great to get a refill of Asian cuisine and get out and see some more of HK. You'll love Ethiopia. I was there for only six days saw so much. Relatively organised and reasonably cheap too.

OMG so how does Dubai DTF compare to having the lovely Hong Kong dim sum? Maybe cheaper in HK but is it better than DTF (I've still never been to DTF but some of my Chinese-ancestry dim sum friends love it).
Also from liane Moriarty books, it seems like it's called yum cha in Australia. What do they call it in your native NZ?
