Yay, Time for this travel year in review :)
2017, finally got myself slowing down this year. I've been bemoaning myself this for years and it finally happened. Went from a crazy 439,128 miles in 2017 to a calmer 283,367 miles in 2018. Sadly will be losing AA EXP which seems like I've had for an eternity and also going down to AS MVPG from G75. Country Count luckily enough continues to go up :) :) :) #46>58 in 2014, #59>74 in 2015, #75>86 in 2016 and #87 >#95 in 2017. Best Experience: 1) Private QR 388 F on CAN-DOH, with J and Y completely sold-out 2) Flying GA F AMS-CGK, its sad this product isn't selling better elsewhere :( 3) Private PS 738 J on KBP-ARN, intra-EU flights are hardly special but your own cabin is still nice no matter what cabin it is. Most Unexpected Experience: 1) Op-up on LX ZRH-AMS on Easter as a A3 *G, guess all the HONs and SENs decided to go elsewhere that day 2) Going to YYZ as a unplanned trip on a ticket you thought that was invalid. Most Ridiculous Experience: FJ J APW-NAN, check-in counter wanted a hiking/walking stick to be checked at the counter. Ended up getting Papa SHF wheelchair service so he can hold onto the walking stick. :rolleyes: Worst Experience: 1) LH F MUC-HKG, how is it even possible to have a bad experience in LH F? Accidentally mixing your meds with alcohol when they aren't supposed to go together, nothing but diarrhea and stomach cramps for 10 hours straight. :( 2) FJ Y NAN-APW, having gate agent yelled "Security Breach" in your face for boarding out of group, when they didn't announce groups in the first place and had a free-for all at the boarding line. That was after swapping 3 gates in 10 mins. In retrospect, I probably should've let her try to pull that one, dumped and re-do security checks for every airside passenger. What's with me and Fiji Airways? Luckily I'm not going to South Pacific for awhile now. Most troubling moment: Being asked for a tip by the guy putting my hand luggage through the scanner at CAI. Proof someone loves me: 4 consecutive intercontinental redeye flights in economy with no seatmate. Biggest status achievement which will not impress FTers: Hyatt Discoverist. Best memory: Watching Egypt qualify for the World Cup at the Meridien CAI with hundreds of excited Egyptians. |

Worst flight experience: SJO to ATL I decided to try Delta Comfort seats for this leg of the flight. I was stuck in the middle, and the man sitting on the aisle WOULD NOT MOVE even after I asked him to please let me by to use the restroom. I nearly had to give him a lap dance just to reach the aisle. It was either that or crawl over the heads of the people in the row ahead of us. I decided not to inflict my misery on them. I may or may not have stepped all over his feet as I made my way to the aisle and then back to my seat on the return leg of the journey. |

The seat was lovely, the IFE had the entire first season of Atlanta, and the cabin service manager was excellent. Worst flight experience: MDW-PDX on WN. After a 3.5-hour delay, I boarded in the B group and managed to grab a window seat not far forward of the exit rows... and when the middle next to me was filled, it was a by a guy who definitely wasn't wearing deodorant. Thankfully I managed to sleep most of the flight, but while doing so I must have kneed my glasses hanging from the seatback pocket, because somehow my frames broke, and I wound up having to get a new pair. |
