I miss it, I moved away 8 years ago after living there for 19. I always bring some with me from my yearly visit, really hard to get here in Canada...

SFO should've definitely tried at least that part. Though I don't trust BA to have good Buendnerfleisch anyway so maybe it's for the best... That one looks indeed not-fresh. To dreary of a brown, not nearly red enough.

I assume it's a green tea cake or something sweet. I'm sure it was delicious.
The cdg lounge is fabulous - 4.5 hours just feels too short! I enjoyed 5-ish hours in FRA LH SEN lounge, and we know how limited it is in comparison!

Did you get extra servings of the truffle Mac & cheese? I assumed you got foie gras which of course is bad for our cholesterol...

A bit of trivia. The Hilton T4 was originally built by the now-defunct BAA (the previous British Airports Authority before it was privatised) and was branded the "Sterling", which was BAA's short-lived luxury airport hotel brand. The Sofitel Gatwick was part of the same chain which accounts for its similar external experience. Both hotels had direct access to T4 and the North Terminal respectively which was something of an innovation in the UK when they opened.

Air France La Premičre 77W Paris to Los Angeles


At around T-30, my personal La Premičre assistant stopped by to retrieve me and drive me to our 77W. There was one other LAX passenger in the lounge today and his PA was escorting him down the elevator at the same time. Unlike Luthansa, we didn't share our limo as we both had our own private car.

Up the elevator to the jet bridge, we cut thru the line of boarding passengers to a private La Premičre jet bridge, which my PA unlocked just for me.



After a warm welcome at the 1L door, I headed for 1A in my favorite First Class cabin in the sky.





Just 30 minutes earlier, the flight was still showing 2/4 so I was surprised to find a 3rd person in the cabin, a French entertainment looking guy in 1D. Either an OPUP or friends, family or celebs. I didn't take any more cabin pics so here are some recycled pics from last October.







I was dead tired at this point and still full from my Alain Ducasse lunch so I opted for water at the gate.





Gorgeous new La Premičre amenity kit.





With some nice cream and stuff which I tossed in my backpack to take home.













Air France 77W IFE is reasonably nice, although with a somewhat limited selection of movies. But plenty of French movies to catch up on.





OK, a First Officer with a sense of humour.







After a short by CDG standards taxi, we were on our way.



I asked for a glass of water and told our FA that I was going to sleep for a few hours. I declined the offer of bedding as I didn't want to sleep the entire flight. The closed my full ceiling to floor curtains and window shades and slept like a baby for nearly 4 hours.



OK now I'm hungry. Today menu...









This guy designed all the La Premičre glassware and tableware and is a rock star in my book.



And wine list. Certainly not extravagant like QR or GA, but servicable.











Showtime!





My Cream of Asparagus soup was delicious.



As was the Foie Gras terrine.



For my main, I went light and the crab stuffed chicken. It was a little bland on its own, but the accompanying yellow carrot coulis with cumin added a nice touch.





And the always wonderful Lenôtre finish to any La Premičre meal.



While pleasant, it wasn't a memorable meal. Service seemed a little off as there was no wine presentation, just the glass from the galley and no dome presentation for my main. I finished the rest of a cute movie 5 to 7, edited some pics and did a little work. Although with no Wifi on Air France yet, wasn't as productive as I might have been.







With a little less than 5 hours to go to LAX, I changed into my PJs, closed the curtains and went to sleep in a proper bed.



I woke up about 75 minutes from LAX.











We landed about 30 minutes early and headed for our gate.



I bid adieu to the cabin crew and as Door 1L opened was greeted by an excellent LAX La Premičre Personal Assistant Monica, who escorted me to and thru customs, and then streetside at TBIT. What an amazing day with La Premičre confirming my ranking Air France and the 77W as the best overall First Class product in the world.

Thanks so much gaobest. 4.5 hours was perfect. Unless we are in a hurry to get where we're going, we typically take the longer connection instead of the more convenient 75 minute one.

I do remember that you have this thing with AF and for some reason prefer LH.
But one of these days, you and Mrs. JohnRain will have to try it and that could put an end to those 3am wakeup calls and 6am CDG-FRA flights.

Actually, it seems like gaobest nailed it. I haven't heard of green tea cakes before, but they are shaped like a slice of bread, unlike the cauliflower-shaped cauliflower.

And of course cette prochaine jeune fille alone makes almost any flight on AF worthwhile.

She charmed me completement on all my sectors YVR-CDG-HKG et retour last week. Alas, not in La Premiere...

Valid point SFO777 and I'm glad that Mrs JohnRain won't read what you suggested...
I'll certainly try AF La Premičre once but it will never become my first choice for a very simple reason: I have no status with SkyTeam (simply because I think that it's by far the least attractive of the 3 alliances) and even if I had I would never have enough miles for two La Premičre tickets. The other possibility, a paid ticket originating in London for example is of course doable but then I'm back to square one when it comes to convenience.
