I've never heard of this guy James Martin.
Usually, it's some form of marketing gag. The meal is still prepared by the same airport caterer. In order to make the appearance of a higher value, the caterer enters a contract with some (perceived) luxury hotel or famous chef to be allowed to put his name onto the meal. The hotel/chef may receive 1ct per meal for the privilege.
Talking about breakfast, I thought BA "enhanced" (cut or "cruz"ed away) the second meal on most longhaul routes.

Great TV chef among other achievements.

Good report, and nice to see a report about Thomas Cook which I have not seen before. I'm surprised that no free bottled water is served, even on an international flight of this length?
Thank you for sharing.

He isn't fussy what he puts his name to. He's also put his name to the slop Virgin Trains call breakfast. I see a theme...

The OP is right .. Thos Cook is cheaper and very comfortable
I travelled LGW-CPT return in the last month on G-TCXB .
I am 6 foot 2 inches tall and I was able to get confortable for the 11.5 hour flight.
The food is very poor. You are issued with a 500 mil bottle of water, everything else you pay for. My advice is buy food and water at the airport, btw 2 bottles of water in Capetown airport cost 18 rand.
Taking into consideration the very low cost of the TC flight, I know if would choose to fly with them again.

Thanks for this report. It's nice to see a trip report focusing on Y-class travel.
I had no idea this flight even existed. Now that I do, I may very well be on it next winter. The cabin itself looks pretty good, although the food looks terrible. Definitely self-catering on this one.
