Worlds Shortest Trip Report: TORONTO
Wednesday March 12, 2003
-Used miles to go to Toronto -auh2o was going for work and I was just taking advantage of a free hotel room -The only available award FC seat was on UA LAX- IAD and AC IAD-YYZ -auh2o was on AC LAX-YYZ (his work will not pay for an extra $600 to go through IAD -All food on airlines is greatly improved with my mini bottles of Tabasco -Hotel: Park Hyatt on Avenue/Bloor http://parktoronto.hyatt.com/propert...MXA5ZU4P5QSESS M4Z54CISIJVC -Tired so we decided to just eat at Morton's which is at the Park Hyatt www.mortons.com -What I can remember of the food was great and the wine was good (tried local wines) March 13, 2003 -auh2o went to work -I woke up at 11am -Had lunch at nearby cafe the food was ok -Went to Royal Ontario Museum www.rom.on.ca it was spring break so it was very busy -Walked down University all the way to Front Street and to the CN Tower www.cntower.ca -Long walk but sunny day (1 degree C) -In the tower I tried to stand on the glass floor with a view 1,122' straight down but was only able to put one foot on the glass breifly (VERY SCARY!) -Walked the SKYWALK to Union station -Took subway to Bloor exit -Walked back to hotel -7:00 pm auh2o returns from work -Take taxi to Canoe www.canoerestaurant.com -THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! The wine was good (local wine) Nice wine list though. -Walk to Irish Embassy www.irishembassypub.com where everyone was celebrating St. Patricks Day all week. -Had some stout March 14, 2003 -auh2o went to work -I woke up at 11am -Walked down Bloor to St. Georges/Beverly to Dundas -Had a sandwich at a market connected to the Art Gallery of Ontario www.ago.net -Spent 2 hours looking through the gallery -Walked down Dundas to subway station -Walked in PATH underground www.toronto-underground.com exited at the Sheraton -Walked to Union Station -Took subway to Bloor -Found The Spotted Dick pub located at 81 Bloor St. E -Had an ale -Returned to hotel -7:00 pm auh2o returns from the office -Take taxi to Susur www.susurlee.com -FANTASTIC tasting menu!!!!!! (please see website for details on the tasting menu) -Susur Lee came to our table and we praised his restaurant and he was very appreciative -After paying for our meal one of the food servers came up to me as we were headed for the door to ask if we would like a tour of the kitchen and the private dining room. The server named every person (about 15) and what their roll was in the restaurant. The private dining room is very nice too. No charge for the room, just a 10 person minimum I believe. -We walk two blocks to Two Cats http://www.martiniboys.com/pages/reviews/2cats.htm this place is great. The manager/owner (I think) sat with us most of the night and bought us a round of shots. I highly recommend visiting this cocktail lounge March 15, 2003 -We head home on UA YYZ-LAX Toronto was great! My grandmother, a Canadian, use to live here so it was even more special to me. I wouldn't say the world's SHORTEST trip report! I actually enjoyed reading it!
I am thinking of the last time I was in Toronto on a course and I had a couple of extra days and decided to check out the parks and the CN Tower.... I am a big wuss when it comes to heights, I really am, especially on my own. I bought my ticket and told the young woman I wasn't sure I would be able to go through with it and she was GREAT! She said go and take a look at the elevator and if there was anything about it that bothered me at any point, just come back and she would give me a full refund. I couldn't bring myself to get in an elevator right away, so let a couple of groups go ahead of me. Finally, I got in and the only way I could go through with it was to stand facing the back of the elevator. So while everyone else looked out the glass side, I just stood and stared at the back and tried to focus on breathing...!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif It was funny, because when I actually got to the top and looked out at the view I was so pleased and really lost most of my fear! I stayed up there for a couple of hours, had a couple of glasses of wine and watched the sunset over the Lake and the city lights gradually come on. It was quite beautiful and I even managed to put one toe onto that glass floor section (but only for a millisecond, I think!) Anyway, I still have a fear of heights, but I do credit the CN Tower with helping me get over the worst of it! (Don't know how I manage to fly as much as I do....) |
~~ deleted my first garbled attempt to do what I managed to do more successfully in the next post ~~
