Guide to Trip Reports?
 

I plan on writing my first Trip Report after my vacation to Hawaii (which starts in about a week).

Does anyone have any advice about what people like to read in the reports? (Or what they don't) Are there any regulations about taking pictures onboard (flying AA, if it matters) ?

Taking onboard pics, if you can get past the embarrassment of photographing your meal with puzzled stares from seat companions, is best done sans flash. Nobody likes a disco club on their overnighter to Europe.

I personally enjoy reading about events that are specific to a particular flight. Most everybody here knows that the C seat reclines and has a footrest, or that AA's main hub is DFW. What we don't know, however, is that your pilot did cartwheels down the aisle or that the big fat lady next to you stole your food when you weren't looking.

My guess is that there's an infinitely wide range of items that various readers find edge-of-seat interesting or stultifyingly boring.

I'd suggest you write about those things that interest you, whether that's the planning, the details of getting there and back, observations about the place(s) where you went, or the color of your rental car.

Jeff, most of us want to know about the service on-board. Menus are always appreciated. Hotel experience is nice too. Rental car? NO. There is a complete forum dedicated to that, but few read it...I'm sure someone will disagree.

Most of us just want the scoop on the service in-air. Pictures are always nice and by all means include details of any courtesy you received by hotels/rental cars.

Whatever you do, please don't tell us that you're newlyweds, and the same to all the agents (airport, hotel, etc.) expecting to get upgraded because of that.......the groom's parents are supposed to take care of that!@#$

P.S. There are no regulations about taking pictures on an airplane....none. Taking them in/around the security screening area there are (or so I was told). If you encounter any grief for doing so on-board by all means don't argue with the FA....simply get her/his name and write a letter, preferably with the names of other passengers that witnessed the admonition.

Definitely not newlyweds! <g> This trip is with my dad, sister, and a family friend.

In thinking things over, I have decided to make this a multi-part report. If all goes well, my first part of the report will be posted just prior to traveling (on the evening of the 14th) which will detail a little more background.

I thank you for your suggestions. I have enjoyed the reports (in fact FlyerTalk as a whole) and just want to give a little back.

Past thread about what people like to see in trip reports. As expected, people like many different things and you should just write whatever you find interesting.
