What a bargain for that leg. Thanks for posting. I've been waiting for a Residence trip report.

Just reread the trip report. I have always wondered if the seats are comfortable on board. I have always thought they don't look that comfortable in The Residence.

Just think this may be too expensive for us, but am certainly thinking of doing the first class bit from LHR - SYD one day.:D^
Love the photo of breakfast in bed, how cool is that, you look very well settled in the bed with all those pillows plumped up behind you.:D

Looks fantastic! Thanks, UAL777! I am a little saddened to see that they offer only "farmed caviar" though... and from AUH nonetheless... I wish they upped their game there with some Sevruga atg least.

A great report on a great experience. I especially like your photos of the crew, they seem quite happy

Nice!

Once you get past the champagne, cigars etc Residence is paying a private jet fee (or in that ballpark) to fly public transportation.

PJs start at 1750 and hour for a king air and heavy jets at least 7500 to 10 k an hour.

You'll have multiple passengers on a PJ of course.

Sam — Just amazing TR. Thanks so much for all the effort that went into it! ^ ^ ^

Thanks for the very watchable video report, UAL777.

The product looks excellent, but I'm not sure I'd personally feel comfortable with all that attention. For me, a butler on the ground and in the air is just not something that I need! The private living area/bedroom/bathroom concept on board is nice, however.

This might be heresy around these parts, but much of this product — as beautifully documented as it was by the OP — seems excessive and gaudy. Maybe I'm just not refined enough for the rest of you, but I would feel genuinely uncomfortable surrounded by so much attention, space, and luxury on the ground and in the air, especially in the context of the inequality and injustice confronting so many around us (the irony of the BBC footage showing on the massive flatscreen in the private lounge — if that's even the right term for it — wasn't lost on me). Sorry if this sounds preachy, but it was my visceral reaction after watching the video.

Great report Sam!
I have two questions though:
1. Is the bed big and comfortable enough for 2 people to sleep? It looked awfully small.
2. What were the complimentary items the butler offered? I didn't quite get what she said after this is offered exclusively to residence passenger.

If you're like one of the top 500 richest people in the world, I imagine you'd probably just be used to it and expect nothing less. I don't know what their load factor for this product is but you'd have to compare it to the experience flying private (and not one of those rent-a-jet deals but legit) to really get an idea of the value provided.

I will say that in almost every trip report on ME3 airlines it feels like there's about 3x as many staffers around as you would actually need to run the place properly. I laugh whenever some jokers try to argue those airlines operate economically.

Thank You for sharing. I enjoyed your TR and video immensely.

Hartmann Dec 30, 2016 4:37 pm

Really enjoyed the report, thanks for sharing!

I am not one who likes to be fawned over so I am wondering what your thoughts are when it comes to how the staff treated you? It seems like they might be very helpful but almost too much. Was that your experience?
