Well, I may have not flown over 100,000 miles, like most of you, but here's my year in review. :-)

On all airlines, I flew over 56,300 miles.
Flew about 53360 miles on UA
Flew about 2940 miles on AA
All miles were revenue, and often upgraded with upgrade certs or miles. All flights reported here were on UA unless otherwise indicated.

January, 2001
Flew home from CLT after celebrating with a friend there.

Feburary, 2001
Did a sort-of mileage run to LHR (stayed 2 nights in London)

March, 2001
No flights flown

April, 2001
Flew to BWI/DCA two times this month to visit friends and family.

May, 2001
Did a mileage run to HKG (well my original plan was to go to SIN, but got sick after arriving in HKG from ORD and spent the night in HKG).

June, 2001
Flew again to DCA for family occasion.

July, 2001,
No flights flown.

August, 2001
Flew to Allentown (ABE) to visit friends.

September, 2001
Flew to BWI to visit my family and got very sick while in town, so spent the rest of the month at home.

October, 2001
Flew back to AUS from home, nonstop from IAD.

November, 2001
Flew to SJC for work on AA.
Flew home (DCA) and back for Thanksgiving.

December, 2001
Again flew home (IAD/DCA) and back.

Next year....I have a mileage run to SIN (and this time I'm going to get all the way to SIN ) plus a little run to LHR in a couple of weeks (but might cancel it, see below). There's a chance I may be flying between AUS and SJC for a couple of months for work and will try to fly UA whenever possible, but may have to fly AA even through UA is a preferred airline at my company. If I can get to fly UA, I may cancel my run to LHR and use the money for a future mileage run to SIN or LHR.

Also I'll be flying to LHR and HKG in XF (so my first non-rev!) in 2nd half of January...

All travel is leisure or for my advocation (soccer referee) Not one mile for work!

Total miles 88k on nw - as - aa - sn - oa
Segments ? don't matter - don't count them January - Resting
February - Jerrie and I take a long weekend to ams. Just before leaving see that Belle3388 is in a quandry of visiting her family at sjc or going to ams. Send her an email before heading to the airport and next thing I hear from her is a letter under our hotel room door that she is in ams also.
March - CatmanDOIII and the dhammer Brooklyn Reality Tour™
April - Resting
May - Attend the a soccer tournament in Northern Virgina which gets rained out for the most part and end up only officiating two matches. Do not know what I was resting for in April
June/July - Fly to cak and pick up niece for trip to Greece (Rodos) and London. Meet Jerrie in dtw and we continue together. Highlight is flight on oa 737 where magic happens on the flight deck and is allowed to fly over the agean like pegasus or maybe icarus.
July - Annual sojurn to USA Cup in Minnesota.
August - It is Jerrie's bday and we head for Las Vegas and this year it is "O"
September - Resting
October - Off to England where I attend a friend's wedding in Liverpool.
October - S.T.I.F.F.S
November - SEA DO III
November - A Taste of Zürich
December - Sunbowl in tpa
Since a large part of my travels seem to include FT events and members my total mileage was enough to raise my elite status with nw to Platinum.

Lots of flying by my standards, though very little compared to many of you. All leisure and at my own expense

36 segments:
United: 11 (2 in J; 9 in Y)
Air New Zealand: 10 (1 in J; 9 in Y)
Qantas: 5 (1 in J - nonrev; 4 in Y)
Austrian: 4 (all in Y)
Scandinavian: 2 (both in Y)
Singapore Airlines: 2 (both in Y)
Thai: 2 (both in Y)

Total rev miles 51,504:
UA: 33,653 (plus 10,675 on SQ not credited)
NZ: 6,012 (kms not miles)
QF: 3,440

No. of airports: 19
No. of continents: 5

Highlights:
- Discovering Flyertalk
- 2nd and 3rd operational upgrades of my life (on UA, within 2 days of each other)
- Sampling AirNZ J-class
- Travelling to so many great places
- Getting Premier status on United!!! (thank you for your rapturous applause)
- Pucci Galore

Lowlights:
- Arriving in Cairo at 4am with no luggage thanks to OS
- The demise of Ansett, leaving us to suffer at the hands of Qantas
- Sept 11
- Missing out on approximately 20,000 UA miles thanks to M+ giving incorrect information about earning miles on SQ

Who knows what 2002 will bring?

YTD United revenue miles: 54,000
YTD United Miles awarded: 145,257
# of segments: 53
--------------------------
Airplanes hit: 72S, 733, 735, 744, 757, 763 2 cabin, 763 3 cabin, 777 3 cabin, BE1, EM2, D38, CRJ. (764, M90, L10 on DL; 73G and CRJ on JI; 757,320,SF3 on NW; 73G & 733 on WN, 738 and 753 on ATA)

Cities hit: ORD, FLL, MIA, PBI, EWR, LGA, IAD, DEN, LAS, LAX, SEA, SFO, BMI, SPI, MEM, BOS, RDU, PHL, RNO, DFW, SNA, PDX, MDW, MCO

Red Carpet Clubs I've slept in: LAX, SFO, ORD (all 3), IAD (C17?), LGA, and MIA.

Most frequent seat: 4C on UA 757
Favorite Seat: 3A on a 777 3 Cabin
Most frequent type: 757
Most frequent route: FLL-ORD-FLL
Longest segment: UA LAX-IAD
Shortest segment: UA ORD-BMI
Most frequent meal: **** Meatloaf or Salmon Choice
Most frequent movie: America's Sweethearts
Most frequent flight attendant: Jay, an ORD based FA... light puerto rican skin, 26-28 age range... i hope he wasn't laid off... had him on 3 flights
Best memory: after the 11th, FLL only had 1 flight for a while, so all of us transients from ILL commuted on the same flight.. i met so many awesome people and ended up sitting next to the same person *3* times... the last flight, the FA remember us from the prior flights (we seemed to fly out on wednesdays), so she was like "HOLY SHIIIITTT" when we got on, captain wondered why she said that, pointed to us, captain lauged,(as he remembers us too) and called us "oh, it's the barachos again?" During preflight departure drink, she just handed us a carton of OJ and a bottle of champagne, said not to waste her time anymore with refills... Nothin like partying in a 757 at 37,000 feet huh?

Best hub gate agents: Imelda L., Melvin G., and Caroline (night shift low C gates) at ORD
Best spoke agents: FLL - Rhonda (actually everyone there is wonderful)
Best res agent: DENRR Kim Keith
Administration: Trudy Goodwin, MCOVZ, now retired

Biggest problems this year: United lost one of my bags on the last leg of a trip. Came to my door less than 10 hours later the next morning. Also was flying BOS-ORD-MIA on the last few segments of a mileage run from florida to boston to dallas, flight was delayed in getting cleaned, so I lost my business class seats on the 767-300 to ORD and the 777 to MIA and was put on AA BOS - MIA on an AB3...

Modest compared to some, but I moved up from United 2P to 1P, especially post 9/11! Speaking of the latter date, we learned of the attack while on a 3-day rail excursion in central British Columbia. The rail trip proceeded, but our internal Canadian flight on WestJet the next morning was cancelled. We ended up taking a charter bus all day back to Vancouver, and staying as per previous plans at the Vancouver Airport Fairmont, a great hotel which had views of stranded airliners from all over the world, even blocking the runways.

I had a very circuitous trip back to SFO, via bus to Seattle, train to PDX (fine views of Rainier and Puget Sound), a night with a friend, then UA to LAX and back up to SFO because no direct flights.

Early part of 2001 featured a January RT from SFO to ORD and a frigid tour of Wright houses in Oak Park, followed by a longer trip to AKL for a family visit in New Zealand. Then in September, the above Canadian trip, followed by a whirlwind of trips to PVD, JAX, and SIN after latching onto Flyertalk, the last 3 costing around $875 and yielding a $600 bump voucher! Result: 50,376 miles for the year, at minimal net cost. What a deal.

Best wishes for the New Year to all fellow FTers!

All I can say is that despite much less travel, I happily ended up a 1K for 2002, a NW Silver, and an AA Gold. So I can get low fares and be an elite when it counts more and more (because of elite security lines, longer waits at airports, etc.)

But the highlight of the year was a family vacation in Oaxaca, Mexico.

From Jan to June (pre FT). I flew mostly UA/other airlines on mid cons, priceline, & other trips looking mainly at price. Only bright spot in this was going on a priceline ticket in April LAX-PHX for $47 total & getting a $600 UA bump. (4 times $150 vouchers).Used vouchers for more mileage earning trips! Discovered FT in late May 2001 & over time, got more focused & wise about status, flying, miles, & doing quaisi mileage runs. (I will fly runs if I spend some time at the place I'm flying to) Had no status on any airline with exception of US Silver for taking $600 bump in June 2000.

June 2001:
SAN-LGW paid $355 total on US. Got confirm upgrade on return & was able to upgrade PHL-LGW at gate. LGW agent didn't collect SWU. ! Thanks to FT, signed up for gold challenge, bonus miles, & double status miles. Booked another trip LAX-RDU for $192 to make sure I would make gold by challenge. Took a bump & got free ticket on the PHL-RDU leg. Went to Kitty Hawk. (that trip got me double status miles, too. ). Got 2 silver kits earlier & now 1 Gold kit. Had 5 SWU's left. Can't let them SWU's go to waste, can we? If work was not so busy, I would have gone to London at that cheap fare more than once! While still unfocused, booked 3 tickets on various carriers. (all sub $100 bucks for mid-con or transcons!). Went LAX-MIA on CO. Got 2 times $300 (total $600) bumps & an op FC on outbound. Paid $86 for SNA-DFW on NW for Sept. travel. Paid $51 for SNA-DTW on UA. (got double miles on this one)

July-Sept 2001: Flew Midwest Express LAX-ATL for labor day & DL LAX-MKE in later Sept. (had to do something to keep my 128K DL miles alive for 3 mores years & did so for $125!). Did one smart thing that time & asked UA to comp me on my US gold. Got my PremEx comp 2 weeks later. Went to FT events in San Diego & San Francisco. Had lots of fun meeting other FTers.

October 2001:

Flew my $51 SNA-DTW on UA. (to see family). Called Prem Ex. got E+ seating & double miles! Booked sister & I on LAX-AMS ticket on US. Register myself & sister for various bonus codes posted on FT. Sister got almost 71K miles (she has never flown US before) & I got 83K with Gold. Was able to upgrade outbound using systemwides for both of us. (she got to use her miles for 2 off peak award tix to FL & have enough for 2 off peak award tix to LAX). We paid $626 each for the LAX-AMS tix.

Nov. 2001/Dec. 2001

Booked LAX-CDG for Thanksgiving weekend. (11/21-11/25) on US. Got confirmed upgrades when ticket was bought in August. Also booked LAX-PVD. Oversold LAX-PIT flight. The GA put me on LAX-BWI flight. Asked & received BWI-BOS when they could use my seat. Add this to my free ticket pile. (should have asked for $200 voucher, but oh well, didn't know!). Saw on FT that Chairman's requirements were reduced to 80K status miles. Had 68K. What the heck, I will do another trip to Europe! When do I have the time? Made the time. Went Dec 6-9, using only 1 day of vacation. Flight put me at 80,403 miles, made Chairman's Preferred on US. Flew LAX-MBS (for once, going to MBS is cheaper than going to Europe from the west coast!) for $246 total. Flew out red eye on Dec 19, oversold flight & needed lots of volunteers. Volunteered, put on flight 2 days later. Was offered 9 hrs. OT at 1.5X pay to work next day. (to fund more trips! ) Free ticket was icing on the cake! Got comped to FC & traveled on the day I originally wanted to anyway! Earned over 300K miles on US!

Prospects for 2002:

1. Take SIN trips. (just got back from my first one! Can't wait to go next month!) Loads of miles at cheap price.
2. Take some more Europe trips.
3. Book Business class award trips to Australia. (already done so on QF using some of my US miles I'd earned in 2001 )
4. As much travel as my budget & time allows. (I travel all leisure).
5. Become more travel wise & know all the 'angles' to max out mileage earning!

Edited for clarity & to correct mistakes.
