Curious about tfung
 

Sir,
I enjoy reading your travel posts very much. I probably would do the same if I had the time and the money. Can you please tell me and I am sure others who are interested, how you have the ability to travel around the world so much in first class several times in a few weeks period? Are you a prince or something? Sometimes I think you might be Carfield, but I have decided you are not Carfield because you have better command of the English language and spelling than he presents. My most extravagant adventure was taken in coach about 6 months ago where I went DFW-CDG-LHR-BKK-SYD-MEL-SIN-LHR-CDG-DFW. I would love to do that again.

hmm.. maybe because I'm crazy? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif I just like flying a lot, so I tend to fly some crazy routings so I can get the cheapest F class trips available. Like if I were to fly Hong Kong to London, I would buy a RTW ticket from Bangkok, and fly to London and through the US back to Hong Kong. That way, it's much cheaper to fly in F than it would be if I bought a roundtrip Business class ticket.
Also, I tend to plan my trips very late, so I might fly a RTW and get back to Hong Kong, and suddenly find out that I have to go back to the US again.. so another RTW to go back to the US.
I tend to maximize the amount of miles I get out of my routings, to get the most miles for my money. That's why sometimes you see me flying to all these routes for no reason at all... =P

By the way, I think Carfield's english is excellent, and so are his trip reports.. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And sometimes, one's job will send one on the road in rather strange ways. I seem to recall that tfung has addressed that his employer (if I recall correctly) is in Asia, but he's studying in the U.S. Periodically, the company needs him in Asia, so tfung is sometimes required to turn it into an adventure. (And tfung, if I've just gotten this turned turtle or confused you with someone else, my apologies).

I think if you look back at a lot of Trip Reports you'll see a lot of folks on this board who are forced, by work or circumstance to fly a good bit, by the longest routes possible. And if they have the means to do it - due to being a prince or having come into a lot of money - so be it. I'd say that if that's the case, and with all due respect, they're entitled to keep that to themselves. I don't think they owe any of us an explanation.

Let's just enjoy the good reports - and strive to meet the new gold standard that tfung has set for 'em.

Just to add my little bit. I also enjoy yopur trip reports tfung, especially your experiences on your various transits through UK airports.
Long may you continue to take the time to go into such detail.

Personally, I just want to 'tip' my hat to Tfung for showing such temerity.

Boo-hoo-hoo..... I just cancelled my long trip which would have consisted:
SIN-HKG-BKK-HKG-LHR (CX)
LHR-JFK (BA)
JFK-EZE (AA) - SCL -EZE (LA) - JFK (AA)
JFK-SAN-LAX (AA) - HKG (CX)

But I think I am just soooo tired. So I'm skipping this till Sep. Then the madness starts again!

I join others in removing my hat to Tfung, not only for his superb trip reports but also for his very civil response to what some would have considered a rather probing question. I would quote this as a prime example of what type of behaviour this and other BBoards should have more of.

What source do you use for your RTW tickets? Suggestions from anyone are welcome! Thank very much.
