Last time I was in New Jersey, they prohibited gas station self-serve as well. Can Catman confirm if this is still the case? And can anybody (particularly from those states) provide a rationale?!

I believe that New Jersey and Oregon both prohibit self-service gas---one view is that it is safer (less chance of spillage) with trained folks doing the filling. New Jersey also has unusually cheap gasoline--interesting combination!

I'm not sure the typical Oregon voter can give you a straight answer about that. Self serve has been voted down now 9 or 10 times, basically every time it's been put on the ballot. And I shake my head every time.
