EWR-LAX

Stay up til midnight the day of the flight to see if I can get my Continental elite upgrade. SUCCESS!! Now I can sleep easy for 6 hours until my 9 am flight.

Get to the airport 90 minutes early because I wanted to use miles to upgrade the return segment and that meant getting on the line. I still used the nifty eticket machine and got my boarding pass in 30 seconds flat. Seat 2A on a 757.

Head up to the upstairs Pres Club to see if the agents would be nice up there - no such luck:

The upgrade was not available but it was on an earlier flight the the trip home. Figure that the $75 change fee is worth it to secure a return upgrade.

The remodeled club is much nicer than it was before. The bar is MUCH bigger and they have these nifty machines to make every kind of coffee or tea you could possibly think of. Also, the usual bagels and donuts.

All the time I spent at the counter changing the ticket almost made me miss my flight. Ran to gate 95. The plane had about 20 Y seats and about 4 in F. I ended up with 2A AND 2B which was nice.

Taxis on time from gate but of course we had to wait 30 minutes on runway. (are you surprised??) Finally take off.

Uneventful flight with ok food but good cookies.

Land at LAX a full 16 minutes early but that was ruined by a UA 777 that decided to park right near the entrance to the 60's gates. Had to wait for that to be moved. Got off plane and tripped over something and fell on an elderly woman, very apolagetic.

Met my uncle and went to baggage claim to see bag come out third - surprised to see the priority tags actually working.

All in all, pretty uneventful, except for getting the upgrade which made my day.

If the Elderly lady is a flyer-talker then her trip report should be interesting.

BTW: Don't ya just love those fresh baked cookies at the end of a 6 hour flight http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
