A review of SQ's Next Generation Economy Product

SQ865 HKG-SIN available here

SQ306 SIN-LHR available here

My previous report:
- "South Australia 2016: Kangaroo Island, Limestone Coast and Wine, CX Y/J"

Even though this is my I don't know how many time flying SQ865 to Singapore from Hong Kong, this is my first time reviewing SQ's next generation economy product, especially it is only until recently that they have regularly deployed its next generation product to Hong Kong.

No matter how little time I have, I always fit in a visit to one of my favourite lounges in HKG: the SQ SKL

And a flute of champagne...

Pillow: a comfy one!

The sun went down pretty quickly after our sort-of ontime departure and I settled down with writing the Lady in the Van.

The crew first came around with nuts and drinks (no more drink carts!) and then with meals.

I choose Braised Beef for the night. Was excellent.

And I treated myself to my favourite drink before landing into Changi

Part 2: SQ306

This is a short continuation of my previous report on SQ's Next Generation Economy from HKG to SIN

The product was very solid - I fell asleep right after take-off. I have slept all the way through to breakfast time, which was served around 2.5 hours before landing...

For the first time in quite a few years, SQ decides not to recycle the menu from the previous years (I have flown this route every year in the same month, and I have had the same breakfasts then) This time round, we were offered Nasi Lemak - a Malaysian dish with fried fish, chicken, spicy egg cakes and coconut rice. This is my first time having this dish. More importantly, this was very well executed!

Sunrise above Europe

The 7,000-mile journey across half the planet

The Alps

Good morning England

SQ stops at Terminal 2B, which is about 15 minutes walk away from Terminal 2A. I was out of immigration and baggage in around 45 minutes, which is decent, not excellent, though.

Overall, another solid showing from Singapore Airlines. I am consistently impressed by the airlines's next generation economy product. It combines excellent entertainment with comfortable seats - the legroom and width are great to see on a 77W, where airlines often now fit 10 seats a row. I enjoy the food, the amenities available. At the end of the day, the real test is how long I could sleep on this 14-hour flight, and I slept nearly all the way. Truly an excellent way to fly.
