Missing cushion - Turkish Airlines Economy Class Reviews

Ever boarded a plane to fly off and be confronted with a metal chair and a missing seat cushion? I admit this has never happened to me until our recent experience on Turkish Airlines. We were flying from Singapore to Istanbul and onward to Copenhagen. This was on the Istanbul to Copenhagen leg. We had to take an airport bus to board the plane. It was a nice and sunny morning. We got on board, walked to our seats, and were confronted with this....

Hmmm, I didn't know we had to fit our own cushion? But that can't be. More likely some maintenance crew did not complete his job! And it certainly didn't help that the dirty cushion left on the metal seat looked like this.

Not a great way to start a flight, I reckon. I first alerted a male cabin crew, who didn't seem too surprised. But he disappeared. Really! Then I alerted a female cabin crew, who said she will help sort this out. True enough, she came back within a few minutes with a new cushion and fitted it. Well done! http://i64.tinypic.com/2po1wmh.png

Here is a short video clip of the dirty cushion experience.

Thankfully, after that cushion episode, everything was smooth. In fact, we did quite enjoy our Economy flight on Turkish Airlines. We flew Singapore to Istanbul, and then Istanbul to Copenhagen. On our return leg, it was London Gatwick to Istanbul, and then Istanbul to Singapore. Along the way we had a separate British Airways one-way flight from Copenhagen to London Heathrow.

I will do a full review of those flights once I get the videos and pictures sorted out. But first, enjoy the 'missing' cushion!

Why didnt you just take another seat?

All the seats around me were taken. There could have been seats further back (as we were in the forward cabin for Economy), I don't know. Anyway, when we told the cabin crew, they told us to wait. They didn't offer to move us to any other seat.

Of course, if they didn't fix this, I would have asked to move to Business class! I overheard a cabin crew in the Business class cabin that they were rather empty that day.

That is very unlikely. FA have to follow protocol, esp. when other seats in Y are available.

Well, then I assume the seat cushion issue did not bother you too much.

Why would you ask the cabin crew to move. If you are in the same travel class, it should be no problem to simply move by yourself.

I don't move seats on my own either. Why be a seat poacher (as the pax who finds you occupying his/her seat will think) if you don't have to? Lots of FTers complain about seat poachers, and here you are encouraging us to be one?
And besides, if the boarding process was still on-going, then OP would be inconveniencing a lot of other pax who are just trying to sit in their own assigned seats.

At least only cushion was missing - I recall there was a thread on BA forum about missing backrest:) on HAM-LHR flight...

I have had to remove and reposition the seat cushion on a few flights myself. They are only held on by velcro, and sometimes they end up slipping forward.
