"And being the only passenger in First didn't really do anything for me in the end, and in fact felt rather uncomfortable as I felt like I was always being watched by the crew (and besides, I couldn't take up all 8 seats practically if I wanted to.)"

So did it suck or not???? LOL

Appreciate your style of writing and your ability to present the basics without making love to your own review.

Not true - and there should have been more food available. A Soup should have been on offer, and some sandwiches, fruit etc. There may also be salads available at certain times of the day as well. As for water, there are 2 water dispensers at the Bar, and one Bottled Water Dispenser for use beside the bar area as well. Unfortunately, individual bottles of water are not available.

You can also get free beer, house wine, and house spirits at the bar.

Hopefully your next visit will be more positive.

P.s. I would hate to imagine your sodium intake for that 48 hour period of travelling... all that salmon, caviar, prawns, and dried meats...!!

Resuming the gorging process, I ordered the always reliable, fresh and delicious Wiener Schnitzel:

Love the Wiener Schnitzel! Great TP.

Thanks for reading, chongl! The buffet at the FCT, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner is definitely one of my favourites, and all on top of a pretty good order-to-cook menu!

Great start tng11, I am really looking forward to the rest ^^. There are no LH 744's with F left.....this may very well be the last TR to highlight that amazing and cherished configuration. Even if it isn't, your solo ride is really special.

What a treat to be the only pax in First and on one of the last of the upper deck 747s. Looking forward to the rest.
Thanks Madone59 and SFO777! I felt incredibly lucky to be one of the last to fly the old LH 744 F - a legendary product in its own right (one for the history books), and being the only passenger was something that really made it special.

Beats me, theshaun. The picture actually makes it look better than it did in person. Pretty sure AC is in the running for the worst meals served on-board of any airline (they did beat Air Koryo's mystery burger though.)

I was just going to write something along those lines, but as I'm apparently sooo predictable I'll have to be a bit more creative.
LH744 UD F will be sorely missed, I'm really glad to see it featured in a new TR. On my upcoming flight in LH F in two weeks, I sure will be looking for a bed upon entering the cabin and I'll have to drink a full bottle of Taittinger 2007 to make up for the disappointment...

Excellent start to what promises to be a great TR, tng11! ^
And kudos that you had the whole cabin to yourself.
Thanks JohnRain! I just flew LH F last week, and I assure you, the Taittinger 2007 is a pretty fine champagne!

Thanks steveman518! As far as I'm concerned, the moral police can go perform specific anatomical functions to themselves far away from this board.

Yes, brodielayne, the flight sucked very much. Who would want an entire cabin and all that private space to themselves, when the cabin could have been otherwise filled with supermodels. Oh wait, my fellow passengers are typically in their 50/60s with wrinkly skin and white hair... Never mind...

Thanks rxfleming for clearing the situation up. On that day, I was specifically looking for just an individual bottle of water (didn't have my own bottle with me, and I'm always skeptical of the dispensers with the ice inside), and the lounge failed to deliver. Otherwise, it was pretty decent for an Admirals Club.

And yes, I was pretty sure my sodium intake was 5x-6x normal levels during that 48 hour period of excess.

Thanks rewardflying! This is probably the 5th or 6th time I've had the schnitzel, and it is always just as good (if not better) than the many I've had when I was living in Vienna.

Singapore Airlines Business Class: Hong Kong to Denpasar (via Singapore)

After spending the night in HK visiting family (and drinking or eating nothing but water after that level of indulgence), it was time to continue the journey to Bali. The lady at the check-in counter was confused whether I should owe the HK departure tax as I was now landside, but after 15-20 minutes of calls and utter confusion, she finally concluded I didn't owe the departure tax.

First time visiting the newly renovated SilverKris lounge in HKG:

Quite nice with plenty of seating areas. Only problem is the complete lack of windows, which gives it a "dungeony" kind of feel during the day.

And nice private cubbies towards the back:

Chose to skip the buffet as I was still experiencing Lufthansa-First-Class-Food-Hangover Syndrome:

After spending just about 30 minutes in the lounge, it was a quick walk to Gate 16 for boarding:

SQ's regional business class product - pretty decent for a short, 3.5 hour flight:

Y was full to the brim, but J was pretty empty with less than 1/3 of the seats occupied.

On the taxi out, got a few shots of some interesting aircraft, including a Air Seychelles A330 and a KLM 747 in front of us taking off:

Once in the air, the crew got started on the meal service quickly. Today's menu:

Skipped the appetizer, and went straight for Wok Fried Prawn with Dried Chili, which had a nice "kick" to it and tasted just fine, but the presentation was pretty much close to what I would get from a food-court Chinese takeout place...

One of my favourite drinks on SQ (when not in F where there's Dom or Krug), an Iced Milo, which was the perfect way to cool down after a spicy meal:

Took a quick nap on the slanty seats, and soon enough, we arrived in SIN more than 30 minutes ahead of schedule. Taxiing to the gate, I stared lovingly out the window at this SQ A380, which I would be flying in a matter of months in Suites...

With just about 2 hours to connect to my flight to DPS, I made a brief stop by the SilverKris lounge in T2. It was at this point, I had the sinking realization that I had left my iPad onboard the flight from HKG, and make a frantic plea to the staff in the lounge to help me get it back. After a few calls latter (and me visibly building up the sweat stains on my shirt), they let me know that the iPad has been delivered to the gate for my flight to DPS. ^

If I thought my flight from HKG was empty, the flight to DPS was even emptier. Almost every single passenger had the entire row to themselves:

I stuck with sparking water and some fruit-juice concotion:

I Booked the Cook on the leg, ordering the Nyonya Satay from the Peranakan Special menu that SQ was running:

The satay was just okay (too fatty and not enough flavour) and the ketupat (the rice cakes in the bottom left) were dry and inedible. I far prefer the standard satay service that SQ does on its longhaul flights.

And a beautiful sunset as we made our way to DPS:

Arriving in DPS, I was pleasantly surprised that there was no more need to purchase a VOA sticker, and that I could just head straight to immigration, where there was no queue at all. In less than 10 minutes from the doors opening, I was already in a cab on my way to Ubud.

Overall, these 2 SQ flights were fine, but nothing remarkable.

As always, Great trip report! Looking forward to the rest. Back on LH F in a month of so. I am not looking forward to the removal of the MUC-YUL which was my go to route as well as the other ex-MUC routes

It does look rather dodgy.

Awesome pictures by the way, and am looking forward to the rest.
A few months ago, I did the Philly - FRA hop and ended up sitting in a bar in the terminal since the lounge was truly horrid.
