A general observation...
 

I have no idea where else to put this, so I hope that this is in the right place (or some nice person will kindly move it to the right forum).

For the trip reports, is it just me or does there seem to be a disproportionate number of oneworld trip reports compared to SkyTeam? While I admit I haven't actually counted the actual number of reports, the general feel is that there are a lot more trip reports on oneworld airlines and RTWs than SkyTeam airlines, though oneworld is supposedly the 'smallest' alliance in terms of member airlines, flights, passengers and destinations.

With a few notable exceptions, SkyTeam reports also seem mainly to be either of DL or AF/KLM with only the occasional report of flights on other member airlines.

Let's cut to the chase -- AA and US miles were/are in abundance and awards charts quite attractive. I think there is a direct correlation.

It's probably also due to the fact that Skyteam lacks premium airlines, thus making a Skyteam trip report less attractive.

Not just premium airlines, but also being able to fly in F, as opposed to only in J on Skyteam if using DL miles to book.

Skyteam sucks. Oneworld doesn't. That's a big reason why.

not only is the relative availability/value of OW miles better than *A/ST, but first world english speaking countries that operate F cabins are disproportionally represented in OW, with AA/US, BA, QF, and to an extent CX.

For *A in F, there's a lot of asian representation with OZ, TG, ANA, LH/LX (hard to book), SQ (can't book unless using SQ miles), UA (lol), and CA (not as appealing). a lot of "good" (either quality or destinationwise) *A carriers don't have very good J availability (NZ, SA). And now that UA has a devalued chart, and US miles aren't an option, there's not a lot of great value.

Finally, ST probably has the worst F availability/points value...there's a reason why most points bloggers are OWE, some are UA 1K, and the rest...so that leaves like deltapoints and frequent miler as the only DL plat/diamonds?

Are you saying that people travel on OW in because F cabin attendants speak better English, or that only America, UK, Australia, and sort of Hong Kong are first world countries?

Those of us who have thrown our lot in with ST enjoy reading about dedicated First Class lounges followed by caviar and Krug, etc. onboard...gives us something to dream about while having Italian Wedding soup at the SC and a bag of nuts with our PDB in D1 ;)

Just a guess, but they probably aren't likely to hire an interpreter to translate their trip reports into English for FT?

On of the major bloggers, thepointsguy, used to be DL traveler and IIRC PMNW before that (and before being very involved with his blog).

I welcome any interesting trip report, including coach flights, LCC, a mix of trains and planes, etc. Interesting destinations that are not often covered are extra welcome.

Also this might just be me but I don't care that much about seeing 10 pictures of the menu in one trip report, most of which just have one page of the wine list. But different tastes I guess.

Why would they be on FT in the first place if they don't speak English.

But that's not what I was saying before. I was pointing out the silliness of saying that people fly on OW because English-speaking countries' airlines have FAs who speak better English.

What profound discussions does the OP think flyers have with FAs that FAs' English skill is a main driver behind the abundance of OW reports?

More like "people flying airlines based in English-speaking countries are more likely to generate trip reports based in English, given a higher likelihood of them being native English speakers". Nothing sinister, just a simple correlation of geography and native language.

I would also note that CX/BA F are relatively easy to come by as partner redemptions compared to counterparts in *A like SQ F, LH F and LX F (though that is seemingly changing with CX). The only partner redemption of those three "A airlines is LH, and that's only within a T-14 window, which is great if you're a college student who can fly at a whim, perhaps not so great when you have kids/jobs/desire to plan your travel somewhat in advance. SQ R is available via Chase MR/manufactured spend, but it's still a limited window compared to partner availability.

ST gives you even less- AF, KE and CZ, completely inaccessible for F redemptions from partners like DL and AS (though thanks to manufactured spend and Chase/AMEX, not completely inaccessible, just less so). And we all know the aspirational trip report relies on plenty of caviar, Krug and F, right?

FWIW, LX F trip reports started dying off once they essentially limited LX F to Senator or greater redemptions out of M&M... though I would imagine Vielfliegertreff.de still generates them, and we'll still get some because FT is a pretty large international community (that still skews to speaking English and the USA, though).
