Country Count wise was a good year, Going from #46 Portugal to #58 Slovakia in 2014
Otherwise would say it was a Down Year trying to decrease budget as BIS figures show :( Lost two HKG - North America trips overall and no RGN fares like 2012/2013 so BIS went down from 268-270K range down to 170K like 2011. Then again, most around here would say 170K is a Feast Year too :D New Countries (13): Portugal, Cambodia, Luxembourg, Bahrain, Oman, Vietnam, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Philippines, Czech Republic, Slovakia New Airports (20): LIS, PNH, SGN, DOH (New), LUX, BAH, MCT, ANC, PHX, EZE, ASU, MVD, LPB, VVI, GMP, NGO, SZX, MNL, KMG, PRG New Airlines (6): Air Japan, Gulf Air, TAM, Shenzhen, Philippines, China Eastern New Planes (0): None Shortest Flight: DOH-BAH, 90 Miles, thought this would be LGA-PHL :p Longest Flight: DFW-HKG, 8123 Miles, rough even in MCE Total Airports: 50 Total Flights: 98 Total Miles: 169,667 Miles Most Memorable Travel Experience Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Country #47 (Sep 2014) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...47b9156ab0.jpg Nizwa, Oman, Country #50 (Sep 2014) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...309e4f8df8.jpg Hanoi, Vietnam, Country #51 (Sep 2014) https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0a11928fe5.jpg Halong Bay, Vietnam (Sep 2014) https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f66dec50d5.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...fab5c62249.jpg Buenos Aires, Argentina, Country #52 (Sep 2014) https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...20d02779b7.jpg La Paz, Bolivia, Country #55 (Oct 2014) https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0bef160e9e.jpg Prague, Czech Republic, Country #57 (Dec 2014) https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...41527913af.jpg Will finish the year in Europe with Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Quite a good year for me:
- I've reached 100k miles flown lifetime (not a lot for most of you in the forum but still a milestone) - I've had my most flights in a year (18) - I've flown two new airlines: TK and AB (other airlines flown in 2014: AF, U2, LX and LH) - First 737 with a SkyInterior (Wow!!) - First time seating in row 1 (now I have to do it on a long-haul flight) http://flightdiary.net/jtflyer/2014 |
An interesting year for me, as it involved a good mix of award travel, mistake fares, and last minute trips. 2015 should be pretty good as well, as I'm doing the UA Island Hopper DO at the end of January, and going to Egypt in April. The rest of the year is open as of now... I also should regain UA status in 2015, after a year as a lowly commoner following 2 years of Gold status.

Nothing too special this year. Completed *G on UA mainly due to a bunch of transatlantics. I also spent way more time in Heathrow than I ever want to (3+ times per month in the first half of the year).
This was also the year I tried different products to try to wean myself away from UA. This included using BA, AS, DL, LX, and LH more or for the first time. New Countries: Nada New Airlines: AS, DL New Products: LX J, AS F/Y, DL Y Shortest Flight: JFK-BOS (187mi) Longest Flight: ZUR-BOS/BOS-ZUR (3745mi). Total Airports: 19 Total Flights: 42 Total Miles: 63,896 Average Miles/Flight: 1,521ish On average, most of my flights were long hauls this year in Y. I did 12 transatlantics this year, which is the most ever for me. And I'm starting the new year off with a transatlantic Brussels to Boston trip in 1/1/2015. Happy New Year everyone! |

A Year of Excitement and Fulfillment
This has been a fantastic year for work and play. I often wonder if it is possible for me to find happiness if I just lived for leisure alone. Since that is not an option or interest at this point, let's move on.
Total BIS Miles: ~315K (on par with previous years) Total Countries Visited: 35 (about 10 less than my average year). New Countries Visited: 6 (decidedly less than my average year, but I am running out of the easy countries to visit) - Fiji - Georgia - Bulgaria - Macedonia - Kosovo - Iceland Total BIS for Wife and Kids: ~3 x 80K (total leisure). Aside from short flights in the Americas, we took 2 RTW trips visiting: Singapore, New Zealand, Fiji, China, Taiwan, France, Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Seychelles. It has been an extremely busy year at work. One of my products is now sold at Apple stores and another one just won 2015 CES Best of Innovation for my category. What a ride. Best of Wishes to Everyone in 2015. |
