Great TR. Please keep them up!

Those boys look awfully old to just have had their bris! Ouch!

Many thanks, farbster:). Yes, they were literally passing into 'manhood':).

Got another TR all ready to go, just have to wait for the photo's to be published in a magazine when their October issue comes out.

Thanks, christianj, EK Y is nothing to get excited about, so I try and focus on the non-aviation part of my travels.

The photos are breathtaking! I am also amazed at how adventurous one must have to be to stay in a tent in the midst of hyenas and other wildlife. Thanks for writing this.

Many thanks, avneeshj, a bit different from Kruger where the campsites have armed guards and are surrounded by electric fences!

Our guide was saying that on a previous trip a lion dragged a Zebra carcass right in between the tents and started munching away, with everyone in awe taking photo's from the 'safety' of their tents:).

Oh I did not know that about Kruger. I am researching safari ideas in Africa for a vacation next June and this was great to read and see through your camera. We are so confused between countries/parks and camps/jungle lodges and the huge spectrum of choices from uber luxury to hardcore camping that are available.

A DanielW photo report is always a delight. Great photos as always - thanks for sharing :)

IMO, for your first safari you should go to Tanzania. You can learn a lot by reading TA and Fodor's forums.

Yes, public camps at Kruger are literally like a small town, one we stayed at had a museum, petrol station, restaurant, as well as hot showers, chalets etc.

Seems to be much better chance of seeing the big cats in East Africa too.

+1. Our family did the Northern Circuit in Tanzania (Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, and northern Serengeti) as our first safari this summer and loved every bit of it. This TR has me all nostalgic and yearning for our next safari!

IMO Tanzania is the quintessential safari destination: great game viewing year round, stunning and diverse landscapes, warm hospitality. South Africa I feel has less diversity in terms of landscapes and settings to view wildlife, but also more luxury in terms of the lodges/camps. With that in mind, for our next safari I would definitely like to try South Africa and/or Botswana.

You might consider a travel agent that specializes in safari. They can guide you to the right place. The time of the year might make a difference due to migration patterns etc...

Many thanks, Seat 2A:). It can be a PITA lugging all the camera gear around, but well worth it and great way to capture all the good memories.

Nice pictures, Daniel. I am planning on doing Kenya and Tanzania later in the year (and a AA MR). Do you mind sharing which tour operator you went with for the safari?
