A different and amazing experience - Jordan

Hi All,

I was in Jordan last week (yes during the Alexa snowstorm) but still had a great experience.

Landed at the Amman airport and after some initial troubles regarding our visa-on-arrival, made our way to our hostel situated in the Downtown area of the city - the best place to stay in Amman with regard to convenience.

The first day in Jordan, we decided to visit the Mount Nebo (the place where Moses had died and hence a big Christian pilgrimage site)
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-K...131210_055.jpg and the Dead Sea - the place which has a couple of interesting things associated with it. It is the lowest point on land on the face of the earth. Also, the water here is so salty and dense that one can freely float on the water.

The next day, we decided to visit Petra. The weather had started acting weird by this time as the storm was approaching.
We started out when it was raining, which soon turned to bright sunny, which gave way to a sandstorm and by the time we reached Petra, it was all foggy. The weather had decided to test our resolve that day. When we reached, entry to Petra was closed due to the rains. However, it was opened soon and we went inside.

We had barely gone in for an hour and had reached the Treasury, when the rains again started and the police deicded to close the place again. So, we had to come out and return to Amman.

Then the same night, the snowstorm started hitting the country. So, the next 3 days - which included an aborted trip to Jerash - were spent in Amman, where we visited the King Hussain Mosque and the Roman theatre. The rest of the time, we spent in the cafes in the Downtown area as well as Paris square.

Though we were not able to visit Jerash or spend some more time at Petra due to the weather, the trip was still a memorable one.

You can read my travel experience at :

And since its a flyer's forum - wanted to inform that I had taken a Saudia Flight from Mumbai (with a transit at Riyadh) and returned using a Gulf Air flight (with a long transit at Bahrain) - the only criteria being cheap fares.

In case anyone required any help, will be glad to help.

Shame on you all!

I think maybe MNL thinks your synopsis ought to have been longer and is referring to this thread

Anyway, great trip report thanks, this week we have had Jordan, Libya, Iran and 4 stans. All very cool IMO :)

Make an effort

You need to at least make an effort to write somewhat of a trip report, not just, "here's a link to my blog; go read it there."

Not wanting to stretch this further, I took that advice from the moderators and did a synopsis in another thread (for another trip) where the same message was posted by the same person. That is why the query.

In any case, all the threads are approved by a moderator before being posted.

And just to be more compliant in the future, will post a detailed synopsis in future trip reports.

Nice report. Is there any link to pics of your trip - I mean more than the ones posted on your report.

I have uploaded more pics of my trip : http://wanderer-abhijit.blogspot.in/...n-gallery.html

Do let me know if you require any further information on the trip or any help if you wish to travel to Jordan.

What kind of advance plans (visa, etc.) do you have to make to do an Amman stopover? I may have a business trip to the UAE next month and I'm thinking of booking RJ and doing a brief stopover to see the city. I've never been.

As a US citizen(?) you can purchase a visa on arrival for 20 JD($30 USD). Amman is cool, but the real treasure is Petra, Wadi Rum, Jerash, and the Dead Sea. Also, from Jordan you can take a short taxi ride and do a day trip to Bethlehem and Jerusalem, as long as you are not Arab(Christian or Muslim). I only had 3 days, and I snuck Amman, Dead Sea, and Bethlehem/Jerusalem in the trip. I took FlyDubai from DXB.

Um...not even close to correct.

Thanks for the report, OP. I'm hoping to get to Jordan this year.

How so? Arab's are kept at the border by Israeli police for multiple hours to go through multiple lines of questioning. It's not ideal for a day trip.
