Introduction
*Special Thanks to SFO777 and jfkeze for Being a Part on this trip and to their many contributions on this Trip Report :) Honorary Mention to FlyingNynaeve and mangosteen lady :) Another go at another Giant Trip Report, my last Huge one took almost a full year to finish which was a bit sad to say the least. I’m not promising I can finished the entire thing, it is 60 parts for Christ sakes but I’ll give it my best and my all :) Last Huge Trip Report Link Below http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trip-...sq-j-ba-f.html And similar to the highlighted report above, I’m finding it very hard to draw a line as to note what to write and what not to write. Because sometime, even though that one section might seem very minuscule, it’s when you add all of the parts up when you really see the giant overall picture. With that in mind, here is a go at how this Giant Report will develop to. This TR mainly comprised of these 5 themes. 1) A Return trip on the World’s 2nd Longest Flight, SQ 37 All-Business Class LAX-SIN 2) A Middle East Trip to Doha and Abu Dhabi with EY F, QR J and RJ Y via ex-CMB fare 3) 1st Around the World trip to Chile/Northeast US on SQ F/LA J/RJ J 4) 2nd Around the World trip to Indonesia, Burma, Croatia on NH Business Jet, DL 744 J, LO 788 J/NH F/LH F 5) Going to Africa and Australia for a Summer Retreat on SA J/SW J/QF J/CX J All together, 58 Flights in total, mostly in Business/First Class thankfully :p A lot of new airlines and planes I’ve never flown on before. 2 New Continents, Africa and South America, also never been previously. 7 New Countries and loads of new places as well... Part 1 – A Salute to the World’s 2nd Longest Flight, SQ J LAX – SIN Non-Stop
Start of another Trip Report, for this 1st Part on the outbound, I used one of my remaining RGN RJ Y tickets, what else am I going to use lol :D What can I say, Rangoon keeps on loving! <3 I decided to skip writing that part bahaha :D There would be 2 sections of RJ Y later on in this report anyway. As for the return, I could’ve use the returning part of the RJ Y ticket, but needing to go back to work in healthy condition, I decided to take the more comfortable option of SQ Business and defer the RJ Y ticket for a trip 3 weeks later. Apr 28, 2013 – Sunday AC 791 YYZ – LAX 8:10am – 10:40am (763/Y) SQ 37 LAX – SIN 9:15pm – 5:40am(+2) [Apr 30] (345/J) Another Weekend, another trip back to the YYZ land. How many trips have I gone through these last couple weeks, oh ya 3 HKG-YYZ trips in 6 weeks :) Had a Birthday Party, more dinners plus another date in the falls, not too shabby. Back in the Falls http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7304/1...156f63d7_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5503/1...cb5238c9_z.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3711/1...1d8c60c3_z.jpg A last minute plan change in LAX resulted in an empty Sunday in SoCal all by myself, but as I didn’t want to change the plans anymore, I stuck with my original gameplan I had. 5:00am, perfect time to wake up for any flight, especially on Sunday morning no less. :( 30 Minutes later, I was ready to step out of my friend’s apartment. And a 25 minutes’ drive later, I’m back at Pearson, going to miss renting these Volvo C30s, fast and sporty. Back inside Pearson Terminal 1, being an AA flyer all these year, I still feel out of place flying out of here http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7336/1...d2fcf8b8_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2860/1...0e243090_z.jpg With a short wait of 2 people at check-in, I was quickly processed and off to the CBP checkpoint. Luckily it was a Sunday morning and with minimal wait at CBP and at security. Was quickly inside the YYZ US Departure Maple Leaf Club. Toronto Pearson Air Canada US Departure Maple Leaf Club http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5328/1...85cb484f_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5470/1...b4b37728_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5329/1...31edf0e2_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7325/1...b6a8fd0e_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7374/1...c4b143b8_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7325/1...150a30b7_z.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3688/1...3e638091_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2877/1...dd55ca93_z.jpg After a quick shower and having a continental breakfast mix of yogurts, cereals, breads and hard boiled eggs. I head down to the gate 61 for the Los Angeles flight. For some reason, Air Canada decided to shift out the Airbus 321 in lieu of a Boeing 767-300 for this morning flight, no that I’m complaining, and armed with a bulkhead aisle seat grabbed at T-24 OLCI, I was a happy camper. Air Canada Boeing 767-300 http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2809/1...67b8314c_z.jpg *1st flight, 2175 Miles flown since Apr 28 Air Canada 791 Toronto Pearson to Los Angeles Scheduled - 8:10am – 10:40am, 5 hr 30 mins flight Actual Departure – 8:06am On Time Arrival – 10:16am Economy Class, Seat 12H Food – Food For Purchase Equipment – Boeing 767-300 (24J/187Y Pod Config) http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5456/1...3d11e1c7_z.jpg Part 1 Continues Below |
Boarding started approximately 35 Minutes out with the usual English/French pre-recorded tape.
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5512/1...2d5c34f0_z.jpg The Bulkhead seat http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2886/1...0501cb31_z.jpg Sorry for the not-so-good photo, the AC Elite next to me boarded pretty quickly as well Boarding was basically completed about 15 minutes out except for the group of 4 Asian Tourists seated at the Row 12 Middle bulkhead. Hence departure was just on time, and door were closed at 8:06am A 15 Minutes taxi out of Runway 5 and we’re off toward Los Angeles at around 8:25am Flight time of 4 Hours 40 Minutes to Los Angeles which puts us quite ahead of scheduled arrival time. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7393/1...b24217ba_z.jpg And a basic AC Economy flight, one full service with the FOB purchase cart plus 2 mini services of drinks. Not very bad, but some extra sleep is required. And a nice wake-up just about 30 minutes out, transcon does fly by at times, landing estimated at 10:05am and despite coming in from the East Coast, we were directed to land on Runway 24R, the north side of LAX. Odd Indeed, and with a short taxi after, finally parked at T2 at 10:13, oldies 70-80s looking terminal, been forever since I’ve been inside LAX T2 as well. In the meanwhile, due to some schedule changes I had the entire day free so decided to just go to outlet shopping and In-N-Out :) With a full day of shopping done and picking up a couple of personal items, I was back at LAX, this time at Tom Bradley for the Singapore Airlines Airbus 340-500 All Business Class Flight to LAX. Good to see the plane is already at LAX http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7432/1...5852a65b_z.jpg Tom Bradley International Terminal http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7375/1...6a6c054a_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7396/1...3a3f7081_z.jpg Singapore Airlines Business Class Check-In http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5350/1...fcd54cec_z.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3714/1...4fb62670_z.jpg Singapore Airlines operated 4 Check-in Counters for SQ 37, is that really necessary for a plane that sit 100 people in total? That being said, the Philippines Airlines flight should’ve hired more check-in agent, seeing all the PR Paxs were blocking most of the entrances into TBIT due to their flight’s heavy lines. And with my lucky stars, there were no lines at security although I had to go through yet another TSA massage, ugh.. Since I was very early today for checking in, I decided to take a couple photos of the SQ Airbus 340-500 while they were still day-light outisde http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7352/1...131a22a1_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7460/1...84628d1e_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2858/1...2cfd4742_z.jpg I had no good expectation of the LAX Star Lounge seeing how SFO777 warned me the lounge was crap but nonetheless, here it is. Los Angeles Star Alliance Business Class Lounge http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2829/1...5110f762_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2868/1...a303981d_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5499/1...cc3e31c8_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2834/1...2d2798e1_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2890/1...d5048b8b_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7366/1...3ed9a587_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2835/1...abb143ae_z.jpg It’s a fair lounge but most J lounges of the day can beat this place. Literally no view, the only view was of the check-in counters of TBIT. Food offerings wise, a SYD Qantas Club offers more food during meal hours. Not all computers were functioning either but the lounge does provide a printer for one’s printing needs. It also provides a healthy number of showers. *2nd flight, 10945 Miles flown since Apr 28 Singapore Airlines 37 Los Angeles to Singapore Changi Scheduled - 9:15pm – 5:40am(+2)[Apr 30], 17 hr 25 min flight Actual Departure – 8:59pm On Time Arrival – 5:09am(+2) Business Class, Seat 27A Food – Dinner, Snacks, Breakfast Equipment – Airbus 340-500 (100J All-Business Jet) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7415/1...aed5bdd7_z.jpg Sadly won’t see this sign for much longer http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3690/1...92a0539c_z.jpg Boarding started at 8:30pm, 45 Minutes out not that we needed it for tonight’s not very full flight. That being said, I was very excited seeing this is my 1st ever All Business Class Jet ever flown but due to some complications, I didn’t board very early hence the cabin pictures are after landing or mid-flight. That so, the entire flight is under darkness anyhow I might be corrected as well, but this was the exact same seat as the SQ Long Haul J seat as ones on the Airbus 380. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7444/1...e0bf5506_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5504/1...5e3e8d6d_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5500/1...96da57b2_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7410/1...d83ee7cc_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5537/1...33a6c8f1_z.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3779/1...d1c61605_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7402/1...5b275605_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5510/1...7833d9d1_z.jpg The Middle Bulkhead Seats don’t look bad if you don’t mind giving up a window view http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7372/1...daec9017_z.jpg Part 1 Continues Below |

Not very surprising seeing I only counted 52 pax out of 100 Seats on tonight’s load, no wonder it’s a goner on a gas guzzler like the 345. Hot Towel and Pre-Departure Beverage were handed out just after door closed http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2851/1...02a99ba5_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7367/1...2c764f03_z.jpg I hope so too, otherwise I’m in for a REAL LONG one http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7400/1...6ddf946a_z.jpg With apron traffic between TBIT and T4, we sat around 10 Minutes prior to Pushback Captain came on the PA and gave his hello with the estimated 16 Hours 45 Minutes flying time for tonight. This is definitely not a flight for one with a short attention span. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3730/1...875292f9_z.jpg http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2812/1...c6517445_z.jpg Bye Bye LA, miss ya American Airlines http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3778/1...fc3a0e0a_z.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5501/1...8bff26e8_z.jpg Airborne around 9:25pm was via Runway 25R then flying out due West straight out the Pacific in the direction of Tokyo. gotta love Air Bagan! :D and the real SW! (Air Namibia)
I feel that this is going to be an epic report! Perhaps a new record, 59 sub-parts? :D |

I feel that this is going to be an epic report! Perhaps a new record, 59 sub-parts? :D How well I don't know but I am writing, imaging and posting TRs at the very least:D Southwest doesn't hold a candle to the real SW, i'm not sure if there are anybody that wrote a TR section on SW (Air Namibia) yet, when I flew it, I couldn't find one, at least on the 319. I'm hoping it's an epic one and one that I will/can complete it :p |
Wow that's a serious TR! Looking forward.
|
well I for one have signed up
|
Great start. Wow, that is one seriously long flight. I lost count of the meals but then again, for 16 hours, pretty tame by SHF standards.
Looking forward to more. :) |
Holy smackers what a trip report!! ^^
|

Looking forward to more. :) and not super advisible for adrenaline-rush, ADHD symptom guy like me :D Now that saddens me, for 16 hours, tame for SHF standards, feel like I haven't held up my end of the bargain :(

Yet I don't feel it's quite the same as doing the SIN-EWR, the longest one. That said, never thought I would find time to fly the SQ All Business Jet, so glad I did it nonetheless |
