Living just SE of I-25 & E-470, I am well aware of the pain the people from your area experienced. The good coming out of this flood is the people helping one another. I enjoy your writing style and hope it is your way to find a bright side to everything.
Get used to Denver weather. They say it will snow tonight (Thurs) but be 81 degrees again by Tuesday.
Perhaps this flood experience with "hinder" your Mom's immediate return visit.
It shouldn't be unusual to find retired air traffic controllers nearby. Denver ATC Center is on 17th St in Longmont CO.
