Summary
_______

Over the years, I can sum up my experiences on Air Canada in one word: inconsistent. I either get indifferent service and mediocre food or decent service and passable food. My experience on this flight was the latter. The only hickup was a 30 minute departure delay due to connecting passengers arriving late.

Despite an almost full J cabin (23/24), service was good and the meals were slightly better than average for AC

thanks for the AC trip report. Love the scenery shots through the window!

On these overnight flights, the only service I am seeking is the Express meal served quickly, and then quiet until it is time for coffee and a muffin. the J pod, while becoming dated and scruffy, is still my favorite for getting some rest.

Thank You...

A. For the trip report!
B. A good reminder as to why I WON'T fly AC J Class...

1. Weak soft product (menu seemed limited, & I want the option of a FULL breakfast on a flight like this)
2. Weak hard product (don't like the coffin setup at all)
3. Other than that, it's all good (-;

+1 on A/B/1/3

A muffin and croissants for breakfast, what is this, Y?

I like the coffin pods :)

Loved the "We apologize should your preferred choices not be available today" underneath the Continental Breakfast section. :D

And the Grapes pic. Unfortunately, we don't see much of him on the NBC/NBCS feeds.

The biggest factor for me flying J is the hard product. Even though AC's pods are getting long in the tooth I think they hold up quite well compared to others. The privacy and all aisle access is big to me.

However, given what I've seen/heard of the new CX/AA/US J seats, those are the gold standard for J.

Thanks for the report OP.

Nice photo report!^

Personally, all I need on a short TATL flight is a flat bed with aisle access, maybe a quick dinner along with a few glasses of wine. The AC J product is nothing too exciting if youīve experienced it a few times, but itīs still among the better TATL J products IMO.

Honest question: What does UA serve in J for breakfast on comparable routes such as JFK-LHR?

I agree regarding the coffin pods. As far as Iīm concered the walls could be half a meter higher.:p

here you go, not much better but at least a hot option from my flight to LHR in March:

PRIOR TO ARRIVAL:

Herbed Scrambled Eggs
Potato gratin and turkey sausage

or

Chilled Deli Selection
Swiss cheese, Black Forest ham, Genoa Salami and turkey

or

Cereal and Banana
served with milk

And please, AC amongst the best J TATL products??? Thanks for the laugh.

Thanks for the menu. If thatīs whatīs offered on East Coast - LHR flights, itīs indeed pretty decent and better than the cont. breakfast on AC. AC only offers hot breakfasts on longer TATL flights from YYC/YEG/YVR.

While I realize you donīt like AC particularly, AC still offers two features in J many competitors on TATL routes donīt:

1) a fully flat bed on all airplanes
2) easy aisle access for all pax

When comparing the J product of the major TATL airlines (AC, UA, US, LH, LX, OS, SN, LO, KL, AF, AZ, DL, AA, BA, IB, AB, EI) AC easily makes it into the top 25% percentile.

On TPAC routes AC doesnīt score nearly as well, but on TATL flights itīs still a pretty good option.

yes they do have flat beds - the only redeeming feature

Out of your list, IME AC is beat by UA, LX, OS, LO, AZ, TK, SU - from ones I've flown in the last 5 years - I'll give you LH, US and KL (although dont they have flat beds now?) No experience with SN, AF, AA, BA, IB, AB, EI so I cant comment.

Hardly 25% percentile... Maybe middle of the pack, maybe....

aeroman380 Jun 25, 2013 7:28 pm

I don't think some on here realize how short the flight from YOW-LHR is, let alone know where YOW is!

Yes, US you are far superior. Yes, your army could beat other armies. Yes, a US airline was named best in....Oh, what was that? AC has been named best NA airline? (which I admit isn't saying a whole lot as it isn't hard to beat any US based airline). I, myself, am more of a Porter, LH, KLM, BA fan.

Great report by the way. Def liked the video. Are you a BOS fan, hence the hockey game pic?

Nope, as posted by me above, a hot breakfast option is only offered on longer TATL flights such as YEG/YYC/YVR-LHR and YYC-FRA.

mad_atta Jun 26, 2013 7:20 am

When did AC reduce its TATL breakfast service to that weak continental offering in J? I did quite a few YYZ-LHR and YUL-LHR flights in J over the years, most recently in July 2012, and I thought there was still a hot breakfast? Though I always slept as long as possible and ate in the Arrivals lounge, so I guess I wouldn't really know, but I'd like to at least know I had the option of a hot breakfast :)
