Miles to the Maldives: A First Class Extravaganza with Singapore Airlines, Etihad Air

I just recently completed a fabulous trip to the Park Hyatt Maldives, going out on United/Singapore Airlines and coming back on Etihad/American.

Introduction posted here. Enjoy!

Thank you both!

Ok first two reports I guess were just the "amuse bouche" - now time for something more meaty!

Here is the San Francisco - Seoul in Singapore Airlines First Class leg

Spectacular flight, hope you enjoy the report!

How many miles did you need for a one way to the Maldives? I thought it was very difficult to get an award in F on SQ?

For Ethihad did you use AA miles?

Thanks.

The outbound was 70,000 United miles each. Yes SQ F is normally very difficult to obtain, but one weekend they opened the floodgates accidentally due to an IT upgrade. It is detailed ad nauseum in the Air Canada, United and SQ forums here. They are reasonably accessible to their own members though, although they have high fuel surcharges.

On the way back with Etihad yes we used AA miles. It was 25k each for MLE-AUH and 90k each for AUH-JFK-RDU. Not cheap, but certainly most direct and comfortable way to get back to East Coast USA.

Phenomenal report, loved the SQ SFO-ICN update!

Did SQ issue you fresh boarding passes in the lounge at SFO or did you keep the UA stock BPs?
