Photo Report: Seattle Museum of Flight

Just visited there today. Slightly underwhelmed but wanted to share the pictures with you anyways. Of particular interest was Concorde, Air Force One and the exhibit devoted to the first collection of miles by HIDDY, PtF and T8191... :)

I like the museum but was surprised how much most of the planes resembled the kit planes I built as a youngster. Build quality that is. It is a hard museum to take good photographs in. I was lucky since it was very quiet but on a busy day it must be even harder. Lots to see and do, especially if you bring kids.

All in all an impressive plane. Bigger inside (well, longer) than I anticipated it to be. I did not became a fan during the visit but it would be nice to have something like Concorde flying again.

All in all a pleasurable afternoon but not as impressive as I hoped it would be. Not that photographer-friendly in the sense there is always something in the way. This museum also wins the price for the most abundant use of plexiglass.

Best part was seeing the new 747-8 take off upon exiting the museum. It was most elegant (even more so than the 747-400) and surprisingly quiet. I will take it over the Airbus A380 any day of the week.

Very nice photos indeed Henk and thanks for sharing. All fab and I really do like the old Bi-Plane ones and wouldn't it be great to fly in one?

I agree re the 747-800, I wish BA bought a few. They're so iconic even after more than 40 years and they will probably be gone from BA withn the next 10-15 years or so I suspect.

Well, at the museum you actually can. They offer rides in bi-planes. Did not take one as the weather was so-so but it looks like fun.

Ah the good old weather :(. The weather in YVR area etc was not that good when we went a couple of years ago. Great place to visit though and OT but I enjoyed reading some of your blogspot and LOL re the road closure :D

That must have been extremely frustrating!

Ahh, envious! I drove from YVR to SEA last Friday and stopped by the museum hoping to see AF1 and concorde. Unfortunately i didnt make it there in time before they closed for the day...

Oh well, someday...

I was there too a few weeks ago! I agree that the museum was pretty underwhelming... The only cool part was being able to see the interior of the Concorde in-person and the Air Force One. I wish we were able to see the 747-8i and 787 :D

Which museum?

Thanks for this henkybaby. Am I right in thinking there are two aircraft museums in the Seattle area? There's one up at Everett which is generally considered the 'better' one, and the other one, much nearer the city.

I'll be in Seattle in the autumn, but unfortunately can't make it to Everett:mad:, but your photo's look pretty cool. If you can confirm that this is the 'other' flight museum that would be some consolation.

Weean.

Easily confused due to naming. The Museum of Flight (pictures above) is at Boeing Field, just south of downtown Seattle. www.museumofflight.org

The Future of Flight exhibition (not really a museum) is the name given to the visitor center at Paine Field in Everett where one takes the tour of the Boeing widebody plant. http://www.futureofflight.org/

Very different but complementary experiences.

Love the report. I've been to Duxford many times, and semi-recently to the National Air and Space Museum at Dulles.

I can never grow tired at lookind at Concorde and the SR-71. Both amazing machines.

nice photos. how was the border line up coming down from YVR. wait long?

i really feel for the EU visitors going over land crossings.

I took the ferry to Port Angeles. Pleasant experience. No line but you need to be at the Victoria Ferry Terminal 90 minutes before leaving. I had a convertible and it was a very sunny day so I was fine. :)
